View Full Version : Dartmouth- Vermont @ Clarkson
Well, if ever there was a must win weekend this one is it. The team has to step it up and find a way to get some goals in bunches. One of the goalies has to give us some big stops. A 4 point weekend is a must. LGT.

If you get 2, take it and run.

Just in case people were unaware, Dartmouth's top player Hugh Jessiman is out for the remainder of the season with a injured tendon in his ankle.
If Clarkson wants to win this weekend they'll have to stay out of the box. I believe I read in the WDT that the PK is a paltry 75% so far this year. That is not going to cut it. RPI's 5 goals (all on the powerplay) last weekend should have opened some eyes. Hopefully this weeks practices have focused on special teams play. Here's to a four point weekend.
WHOO WHOO. INternet problems kept me from listening after the 1st period. Sounded like a solid team effort last Knight. Gonna need another one toknight.
The Good;
Latulippe's hattrick
Blights goal
Dodge (2), Weller, Rutherglen (2), Faulkner, Blight assists
TRAYLEN TRAYLEN (Finally a solid game in the nets)
Only 7 penalties all knight.
Blanking Dartmouth on the PP :) .
The not so good.
Another late goal in the period. This time in the 2nd gets Dartmouth back in the game.
Congrats on the win. Vermont is gonna be tough.

WHEW, What a game.....awesome and then some.
Congratulations to Jay Latulippe on his hat trick. Jay had his hat trick puck on the table in front of him in the Barben Room last night, and everyone was so proud of his accomplishments.
Accolades to Dustin Traylen, who only allowed one Dartmouth goal, which was kind of a fluke anyway--it was deflected into the net off from a player. Dustin returned to his old goaltending ways and did a superb job.
Vic, I think you mentioned in another post about freshman Nick Dodge. Well, Nick played very well again last night and earned two assists. Then there is Chris Blight, who always does his very best, with a goal and an assist. Chris portrays a fine example of innate hockey talent and ability.
In looking over the Golden Knights' scoring, they are led by their senior leaders, Jay, Mac, and Chris--a solid group of young men on whom the team relies.
My goodness, it was such a great feeling to win our first ECAC hockey game. Hopefully, it will provide the Golden Knights with the confidence they need to
VICTIMIZE VERMONT TOKNIGHT. :)
Well a 3 point weekend certainly beats a 0 point weekend. Congrats to the team. Tough game toknight.
The Good
Chris Blight from Mac Faulkner on the goal
TRAYLEN TRAYLEN. Really kept Clarkson in the game early and had a huge save in the third to preserve the tie.
Very few penalties
The not so good.
Would have preferred the win ;) .
OK, according to Josh and Bob, Murphy the referee called this one like he would have called it last year. Let a lot of stuff go that other officials have been told to call. Really swallowed his whistle in the OT on an obvious trip of Chris Blight. So, I wonder, what's it gonna be. Is Murphy a rogue official who is not gonna follow the edict or are all the officials now gonna be more lenient in calling things    ???

A THREE POINT CLARKSON GOLDEN KNIGHTS' WEEKEND!
ECAC Commissioner Steve Hagwell was in attendance at last night's game. Dan Murphy may have been aware of the Commissioner's presence, but I don't know if he was or not. It didn't seem as if he called nearly as many penalties last night as he did in the game against Dartmouth the previous night. The Commissioner enjoyed the ambiance of our special Cheel Arena. He joined the AD for a delicious pre-game dinner in the Barben Rooms and then attended the post-game party for a while. Clarkson fans are indeed fortunate to have such a beautiful facility.
I don't believe I have seen UVM play with the intensity they possessed last night in a long while. As the game continued, the Golden Knights seemed to pick up their level of play. By the end of the second period and into the third period plus overtime, Clarkson had responded by elevating their level of play.
Chris Blight's awesome GOAL with only two seconds remaining in the second period created a definite uplifting effect on the team. I can never say enough about Chris's hockey skills and the intensity with which he plays the game. He and Mac Faulkner are simply amazing....roommates and friends....they get the job done.
Dustin Traylen was selected the first star of the game, as he, with the help of the crossbar and goal posts, allowed only one UVM goal. We heard there was a scout at Cheel to watch UVM goaltender Joe Fallon, but he must have been equally impressed with the play of Dustin Traylen.
The North Country's weekend results:
Clarkson 3 points
UVM 3 points
Dartmouth 2 points
SLU 0 points
We will see what happens at Wednesday, November 17's game at Appleton Arena.
CLARKSON'S GOLDEN KNIGHTS....AWESOME AND THEN SOME.
SILENCE THE SAINTS :)

The comments so far in this thread seem to be pretty much what I was thinking, so I'll just throw in a couple more random thoughts:
1) The playmaking on Friday night in the 2nd and 3rd periods was awesome. It's a treat to watch a team that's in sync with each other, and that was definitely the case. Much of it didn't manifest itself in the score totals, but a lot of the Dartmouth penalties late in the game were results of sustained Clarkson pressure and frustration.
2) The Vermont game was encouraging in that it was a hard-nosed, "first one to crack" sort of battle, and the guys rose to the challenge. The shot totals from the first period were a bit misleading (I think that if you looked at offensive zone possession time it would be much closer), but Vermont did come out firing, and in the end there was only one goal on the board. After an opening few games of suspect penalty kill and defense in general, it was good to see a relatively clean score sheet for the opposing team in both games.
All in all, a weekend of good hockey, and 3 points is a good result. Time to get 2 more against the SLUzers :D

"When Greg Drechsel and I were assistants, and [current assistant coach] J.F. Houle played here, we expected to get four points at home. We have to get back to that mentality," he said. "We cannot be satisfied with three points."
