Erik had his biggest game offensively in the NHL with 1G. 2A in the 'Canes 4-4 tie tonight with Dallas. I'm looking forward to seeing Erik next week against the suddenly red hot Rangers at MSG!

Erik got his third of the year tonite...the game winner!...on the PP to beat the Leafs. I am looking forward to seeing him at the Garden on Thursday nite!

LETS GO TECH!!! :D

Erik looked good at MSG last nite...obviously no pints in the Canes 5-0 loss to the Rangers. He had a couple of chances and played well in his own zone also.

Skatingon their top line with Ron Francis and on the first PP unit!

I saw only the last ten minutes plus the OT on the tube but John Davidson said "this kid Cole has played a great game!" I wonder if Sam Rosen, his partner, who follows the college game closely, mentioned Clarkson.

Anyway, E has looked very solid all 4 games against the Rangers...he'd look great in a Rangers uniform! :D

1G, 1 A for E tonite over Florida...his 5th goal of the year!

Way to go Erik!

Even though it won't happen, it's nice that he's getting mixed in with the likes of Heatley and Kovalchuk.

Nice article on him in the Syracuse Post-Standard (http://www.syracuse.com/sports/syrnewspapers/storyindex.ssf?/sportsstories/20011226_scole.html) :)

Jim,

Thanks...great article. Eril is the real deal indeed. Saw him play recently at MSG and he played with the poise and confidence of a ten year vet. Played on the PP and PK too.

I dont think Heatley is a lock for the Calder just yet. E plays a more complete game but it will probably come down to points so E has some catching up to do.

That's a neat article about Erik. Thanks! Glad to see he's doing well.

As a season ticket holder, I get to see him play quite often. :D

Things that strike me about his play are his maturity, the way he skates very hard to the net, his ability to find open ice, and that he never misses a chance to deliver a hit. He does NOT look like a rookie out there. He is now a key player for the 'Canes, and believe me, the season was looking quite bleak for the 'Canes before it started. (They lost several players, and did little to replace them). He is a very important player on the team, and I believe he has positioned himself into the lineup for good.

A bad weekend for tech but agood day for Erik here in NJ. He had a goal and assisted on the game tying goal. I wish I had seen or heard the game...the Devil radio announcers are incredible homers and rarely give the opposition credit.

It would have been interesting to see if they mentioned him. Their TV guys are much better at that, and the league as a whole has definitely taken notice!

anyone have an idea why Erik did not play in the young stars game tonite? Was it because Tanabe was playing form Carolina also?

I'm going to see Erik play against the Bruins tomorrow night. Hoping he's not injured like Todd was before so I finally get to see a Techer play in an NHL game live. Am very excited. Will take notes and give a little report Friday morning. Haven't seen him since the last stats class he went to just as he was going pro and leaving town. This weather is soooo messed up!!! It was 63 yesterday and now it's a bloody blizzard....*sigh*

Well I see that Carolina beat the B's but I didn't see Erik in the article. Did he play? How did he look?

On the plus side I see that Todd (W) scored another last night and Todd(M) had a SHG last night.

Sorry for the delay, guys. Had a few minor crises to take care of this morning. Here's the scoop:
Erik played very well. It was great to see him playing. Only blemish was he got 2:00 for elbowing and Carolina got scored on during that time. But, later he came back and got a helper to make up for it. He had some nice shots on goal, too. He seemed to be hitting, also. The hits were quite hard and right on target. Irbe was hot last night, so that helped Carolina. The B's were missing Dafoe and PJ Stock and I think it made a difference. I think Erik was on the 2nd line. He got a lot of playing time. One of the people in our group knew Shane Willis(#25 for Carolina) and his parents so we were both cheering for the other team. It was a fun evening seeing a former Techer play and am debating dropping the big cash for a good seat for the Calgary game. There were lots of fights and it got ugly. The refs never really had control of the game. Don't reckon Erik got any penalty minutes except for those 2. Bruins racked up hours though. So, he did good.

Carolina 2
Chicago 1 OT
3/5/02

Erik Cole scored his 14th goal for Carolina, which improved to 4-3 on its eight-game road trip.

"It's been unreal, especially the amount of overtimes," Cole said. "But the trip has been great and I think the break helped us. We've played a lot of these type games and that has helped us."

Cole beat veteran defenseman Phil Housley on the outside of the zone and fired a shot on Passmore with 12:49 left in the period.

I'll be seeing Erik play for the 2nd time this season on Saturday. The Bruins donated a luxury box to the lacrosse organisation that I coach for. Should be a good game and I'll post a report Sunday afternoon :)

Sorry, Chuck. I was lucky just to get in myself. There was a little lottery to get in because so many coaches wanted to go, and there's still a waiting list. Someone was definitely smiling down on me today!!! Usually I have the flat out worst luck.

Pete,

So now you know "the drill" about how to hook up with E after the game!

Good luck! You'll wear the jersey, I presume!:D

petal

Rich, won't be hooking up with E after the game. Not gonna go through all of that again. I think if I wasn't a girl I'd have better luck with that kind of thing. No worries! Will just go, have a good time, and cheer him on. Yes, I'll have the jersey with me and it'll be hanging out of our box :)

The Record in New Jersey yesterday cited the addition of "bruising winger Erik Cole" as a reason the Hurricanes will be tougher for the Devils (or anyone else) to beat in the playoffs this year.

If the 'Canes play the Devils, I may have to consider going...since my Rangers will be on the golf course again. And if they draw the Isles, those game will be on TV here also.

Go E!!! :D

Erik gets the game winner tonight as the Whalers beat the Devils 2-1. Gonna be a good series when/if the Devils get healthy.

Stemmer

When the Devils get healthy ????

Is that an excuse? Joe N missed a game with the flu and he'll be back Friday I heard and Sykora is out for how long?

Injuries are part of the game esp. at this time of year when everybody is banged up. That's why the best teams have depth.

Irbe had a great game in goal and Cole made a great play to set up his shot for the GWG. He had a solid game all around...I heard both th eDevils radio AND TV guys rave about his play.

LETS GO 'CANES!!!!! :D

Quite simply, Erik was great...a threat every time he touched the puck! Made Stevens look absolutey foolish once!

He plays with incredible poise...very rare for a rookie!

Keep it up "E"! :D

Boy, did Eric play a hell of a game toknight, or what. Got the GTG and was involved in the GWG in OT as the Whale...er Canes... do it to the Devils again!!!! According to the Devils announcers and the Maven, he was clearly the best player on the ice... I agree, for once. He played with jump and power....hammering away at Stevens all knight, and beat him one on one for an excellent scoring chance later in the game. Go Canes!!!!

Ahhh too much excitement between the earthquake and Erik's goal and my big brother's redwings being down by 2 games!! That is so awesome that Erik is stepping up and making huge differences for his team. I hope he can keep up the hard work and continue to make a fool out of Stevens. It's about time someone did :) On the radio for the Bruins first game they replayed E's goal from the 1st game against the Devils. It was so neat. The whole neighbourhood must've heard me cheering. Way to go, Erik! We're all proud of you!!! LGT!

At least twice during the game last night, the Devils announcers referred to E as being from "upstate New York...Oswego" but never "Clarkson". I thought Chico Resch might mention that since he played US college hockey.

Erik was interviewed and again "upstate" was mentioned. He said he had lots of people watching from back home but did not mention Tech.

I bet he he'll have a large rooting section at games 3 and 4 here in the Meadowlands!

Go 'Canes !!

Steve Levy did the play by play of the Carolina-Joisey game on ESPN2. He did say Erik was a "graduate" of "Clarkson College". Well at least he got Clarkson right :) . The guy had nothing but gushing praise of Erik every time Erik was on the ice.

Playoff goal number 3 for Erik tonight in Carolina's 2-0 win over the Canadiens. I was hoping for a Carolina - Bruins series, but it wasn't meant to be. Now let's see if Ottawa and Carolina can make it to the conference finals... At least the Celtics won tonight, but no Techers on their roster!

Awesome game last night, Stemmer! Erik was everywhere. His goal was super, he got taken down and didn't give up and got a second chance and scored on it. He layed some good hits as well. The announcers on ESPN said he played for Clarkson. That made my night-to hear my little college mentioned on ESPN ;) (it had been one of those 12 hour work days so anything neat was a highlight). I went nuts when I heard it. Anyway, E had good shots on goal, not just plain old shots but real quality ones and he put in that extra effort and it showed. His play was very impressive. He didn't play dirty or and didn't try to cut corners. He just played hard and I said to myself "Just like a Techer....". The goalies were both hot, so any goal scored was going to be huge. It's a big deal that he solved Theodore. Looking forward to tonight's Ottawa game, and so on. Nice having "Clarkson hockey" on each night! :)

Thanks for the report Pete...looks like I'll be out tonight and will miss most if not all of the Sens game too. Seems that whenever I don't watch, the Techers score.

On the other hand, every time I see Craiger at MSG, he DOES score!!!

I see E led the game in hits last night...the Devils "noticed" his hitting style, especially Stevens, who thinks he's the only one "allowed" to hit hard...hope E makes more friends among the Habs that way! :D Its great to watch his solid all around style of play...and good to hear that ESPN finally mentioned Tech!!! Who were the announcers?

Cole scored a hat trick tonight against the Habs. A PP and a SH.

Got an assist with nice pass to Battaglia too.

Talk about a Theodore killer!!!

I'll keep a close eye on Erik tonight at MSG...he probably won't have a problem beating the Rangers decimated defense...

I recall seeing him take a nasty elbow from Messier last year at the Garden...and kept on ticking. :D

according to the recap of tonight's canes game, cole left the game with a broken bone in his lower left leg. really too bad for him because he was having a good sophomore season and was to play in the young-stars game this weekend. hope he has a speedy recovery.

Here's the bad news -- hope he has a speedy recovery and can get back into it this year....but it doesn't look likely......
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Carolina Hurricanes left wing Erik Cole broke a bone in his lower left leg in left Thursday's night game at Tampa Bay.

Surgery will likely be required, and Cole could be sidelined 2-3 months.

Cole landed awkwardly after being checked near the blue line by Tampa Bay's Dan Boyle midway through the second period.

Cole has 14 goals and 27 points in 53 games.
