AmericanHockey Magazine (April/May 2004) features Clarkie in the AMERICAN STAR column on the inside of the back cover. Nice article...
He could have turned pro right away but opted to play four years of college hockey for Clarkson University...
"It was my decision to play college hockey," says Clark, who majored in information systems and business management at the Potsdam, NY school. "It was a big deal for me and my parents to get my degree. We had a very good program at Clarkson, so the Flames knew I was in good hands."

Very nice.

I watched the game the other night on ESPN, and I think they were calling Clarkie "The Mailman". Did I hear this right, and if so, where on earth did this nickname come from? Thanks, guys!

PETE,

No idea where that came from but Clarkie sure delivered the other night...see below...and Craiger did also in Game 5...

"Coach Darryl Sutter has coached more than 100 Stanley Cup playoff games and knows when to push the right buttons. Having done so again in their first-round series has helped the Flames crawl back even at 2-2, making it a best-of-3 series. After their game one loss, Sutter went further than to blame it on nerves, saying his team needed more from its captain Jarome Iginla and goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff. Both have played better since and Kiprusoff earned his first playoff shutout in Game 4. During the Game 3 loss, Sutter benched defenseman Denis Gauthier in the third for giving up the puck twice on the Canucks game-winner and not throwing his weight around physically. That wasn't all. "We need secondary scoring," he said in The Globe and Mail. "(Chris) Clark, (Shean) Donovan, (Martin) Gelinas, in terms of opportunities, they've given us zero. We need a goal out of them." The result? Clark had a goal and an assist, Donovan a goal, Gelinas an assist and Gauthier an assist in the 4-0, Game 4 victory."

ESPN has Game 6 tonite, lets see them wrap it up!

No. 7: Are you adding up your playoff money with each series win, and what will you do with it?

Clark: You know, we just bought a cottage two miles from Craig Conroy in New York on Lake Ontario, so a lot of it is going there.

That's cool.

A Good Knight Story

When it comes to setting the tone for a game, you can leave it to Chris Clark to get the job done. Would you really expect anything less from a former Knight?

It might be a collective effort that determines the final outcome of the game, but when it comes to drawing battle lines at the beginning of the big contests, it never hurts to have Clark, who played his collegiate hockey with the Clarkson Knights, on your side.

From article:

Clark, who played three seasons in the ECAC, collecting 128 points (63 goals, 65 assists) and 392 penalty minutes in 142 games

Chris played 4 years at Tech, no?

142 games/3 years = 47+ games/yr quite a lot for college

Traded to the Caps (http://www.hockeyfights.com/news/36042)

Official Capitals release (http://washingtoncaps.com/news/index.cfm?cont_id=286779)With most teams jumping into the free-agent market head first, the Capitals do the equivalent of sticking their big toe in to test the waters.

I know that hard work beats talent but there has to be some talent there to begin with.

I, for one, will NOT be spending my time down @ the MCI Center.

Clarkie gets the hat but it's not enough as caps lose to the B's.

Bummer.

I saw Chris on SportsCenter; I believe that was his first career hat!!! It's a shame he couldn't beat the B's though (although I still have nightmares about Dino Ciccarelli and the Caps). He sure has come a long way from the days of 100 PIM in a season at Clarkson. (If I recall correctly, he took a 10 minute misconduct in the last game of his sophomore season to get above 100  )

From these two articles, wouldn't be surprised that Clarkie does not have a job next year in Washington. Not necessarily a bad thing.
