White’s recovery leaves him in grey area (http://www.ottawasenators.com/insider/newsletter/20040323/feature.aro)

Todd White is taking the good with the bad these days.

The Ottawa Senators centre received an unexpected vacation after a puck struck and broke his right foot during a Feb. 17 game against the Washington Capitals.

However, with the playoffs around the corner and a return to the lineup in site after another visit to the doctor Tuesday, the 28-year-old can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“I’m going to have another X-ray done — it is obviously starting to heal and some calcification’s occurring so we’re going to wait and see how it is … and go from there,” White says. “It’s been tough. It’s not the right time of the year to get injured, right before playoffs, but at the same time, I’m going to be healthy for playoffs and that’s the most important thing.”

The Kanata native spent the earlier part of the year trying to get on track despite being troubled by a recurring shoulder injury that’s forced him to miss seven games at three different times this season.

Just as things were falling into place, bad luck handed him the most recent and serious of his injury setbacks.

With his wife Sarah due to give birth to the couple’s second child, however, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise that he was able to welcome daughter Avery Bryn in person on March 11.

“It would have been tough scheduling,” he says. “It worked out that I was able to be home for it. Obviously, you never want to get injured, but … you have to take the good with the bad.”

One of the Senators’ more dependable faceoff men and a fixture on their penalty killing unit, White is missed by his teammates as much as he misses them — particularly while they’re on the road for much of March.

“In some ways I’m able to just come in, do my work and be focused on just rehabbing when the guys are on the road,” he says. “But at the same time, you kind of don’t feel like you’re a part of it. It’s nice having the guys back around.”

Whitey appears to have played a regular turn in Ottawa'a game one victory over Toronto.

Looks like he may be a bit rusty on faceoffs as the stats say he won only 2 of 13...very "un White like".

Todd scored a pinball goal from the blueline in Ottawa's 4-1 win over Toronto. He played 16:27, and received this for it..
