Don Smith makes Rochester debut

Called up to the Rochester Americans earlier in the day, Don Smith went about proving he belonged in the American Hockey League.

Smith, the leading scorer for the United Hockey League’s Elmira Jackels, set up two goals and Nathan Paetsch scored the game-winner as the Amerks defeated the St. John’s Maple Leafs 3-1 on Wednesday night at Mile One Stadium.

Don picked up an empty netter last night as the Amerks beat Manitoba.

Don picked up two thirds of the Gordie Howe hat trick tonight in Rochester as he was in a fight in the second period and scored a nice shorthanded goal from behind the goal line in the third as the Amerks beat Syracuse 4-0.

The Amerks commentators had nothing but praise for Don. Hopefully he'll stick around for the Calder Cup playoffs.
