View Full Version : Clarkson - Colgate
Well this was certainly a revolting development. Colgate 6 Clarkson 1.
The good:
Clarkson was not shut out.
The not so good:
EVERYTHING.
Enought said. Back to the drawing board. 4 home games and out of 8 possible points we have 3. BAD BAD BAD. SLU this Saturday. A win is a must guys.

The team from last night wasn't even near the building, let alone on the ice. Tonight's performance was easily the worst of the season.
The decision to pull Traylen was a good call. He was not sharp and the team needed a shot in the arm. Expect to see Dustin back in action on Saturday.
Like I said before this game was a game the team looked over. After playing a nationaly ranked rival, and playing the biggest rival next weekend, this team snuck in a took it to the Knights.
The power play isn't good, regardless of how many goals we scored in previous games. 1 for 6, with the 1 being a garbage powerplay at the end. We are now 1 for our last 13 powerplay attempts. Thats not going to win games.
Nickerson needs to find some disicipline. Last night was great. Tonight was not. Apparently he's either gonna get 0 PIM or over 10 PIM. You can't score when youre in the box.
On a positive, at least thats out of their system. Hopefully.
Clarkson goal scored by:
Rob McFeeters (3) PPG ; assisted by Blight and Faulkner

That was humiliating to watch.
Our defense needs to be put on the side of a milk carton because it went missing tonight.
I also think we may be mistaking the box for the bench, because we're spending way too much time in it.
One more good thing:
We actually scored a PP goal. Amazing.

Wow, I just finished reading the updates on the game tonight. I saw them play Cornell and thought to myself.... wow, Clarkson is going to surprise a lot of people this year. However I didn't think it would be like this.
I have read the technical aspects that contributed to the loss, like poor defense, goaltending, and penalties. I guess I would venture to speculate that Clarkson wasn't on their mental game tonight because their physical play shouldn't change overnight unless they were tired out from Cornell.
What could have been the reason for the inconsistent play overnight and numerous penalties? :( Any speculators out there who wouldn't mind remembering the game?
I want to send in a question to the coaches show on 99 hits. Is the email address hits@slc.com??? Anyone confirm this.

Since I will not be able to listen to the show, here is the question I sent in. Hopefully Goldie you will be listening in and let me know if my question was chosen :) .
Seems to me in listening to the games over the internet that Matt Nickerson's reputation is causing the referees to hold his play up to a higher standard than other players. Not being able to see the games live, what do you think about Matt's play so far and is the severity of some of the penalties and misconducts he has received justified? I'd really hate to see this be one thing that would cause a kid of his caliber to leave the program early.
Anyone else who has seen the games care to comment on this one?

disapointing evening. I guess I have the same questions that CU on the Ice, as well as was it something specific that Gate was doing that was successful? The crowd came out with the same type of enthusiasm as the team.:(

Vic,
I was gonna ask the same question... it seems the refs know Matt's history and are especially tough on him... can't wait to hear the answer. For that matter the whole team may have the problem of a penalty rep that they can't seem to escape.

Interesting comments...from the WDT (http://www.watertowndailytimes.com/editorial/20031116/6223.asp)
"I don't remember ever having a game like this," said Clarkson coach George Roll, who worked as an assistant at Clarkson from 1988-96. "We'll move on from this. We're not going to dwell on it."
Let's move on and beat SLU!

Sounds like Nickerson had the same rep as Willie Mitchell when he came in...Willie adjusted and gained sopme respect from the refs. Matt needs to do the same!
