The team is actually called "Landshut Cannibals". One of the most-storied organisations in Germany. However it's a small-market team, some 50 miles east of Munich (Munchen-> home of the Oktoberfest ;-).

The Cannibals used to play in the German Elite League (DEL) until 1999. The franchise was then moved to Munich (Munich Barons, now relocated ->Hamburg Freezers).

The Landshut Cannibals started a new team in the minors, Division-3, that same year.

They are in their second season in Div-2, the top minor league, now. They have had stunning success with a very young team and a couple of North American veterans like goalie Doug MacDonald or Doug Derraugh and currently lead the standings. The Div-2 champion usually gets promoted to the DEL.

By the way, they seem to appreciate Bahen's services very much. He just signed a contract extension through 2005.

Cheers,
Clint

PS: By the way, there's an English website on hockey in Germany, which is mainly dedicated to the DEL, though: www.prohockey.de (http://www.prohockey.de)

thanks csterner, i was searching around trying to find out information on it too. I see that they are in the last game of the semi-finals. And Bahen has played a lot of minutes it looks like.

wonder if he will come back and try out for Carolina?! if the NHL doesnt go on strike.
