It just dawned on me that a good percentage of former Clarkson Golden Knights are generous donators to Clarkson. Some of them give thousands of dollars each year to the University. Plus, there are many Clarkson alums to contribute annually.

It follows that if Clarkson is prohibited from awarding Division I scholarships, the caliber of hockey player we could attract would diminish. Thus, few if any Golden Knights, would be drafted by the NHL and earn adirable salaries.

This should prove to be an excellent motivating force indicating why the Clarkson administration should be industriously working to persuade the fifteen members of the Division III Presidents' Council, which originally drafted this petition to abolish awarding scholarships to Clarkson hockey players, to withdraw this hateful, harmful petition at their meeting in October. If this cannot be achieved, then I believe Clarkson hockey, as we have known it, will cease to exist.

Scott was thoughtful enough to publish the mailing list of those fifteen college presidents who control our hockey destiny. In addition to emails, I firmly believe that "the pen is mightier than the sword" and these people need to know just how much we all care about Clarkson hockey. For $5.55 in postage, we can notify all fifteen of them.....and tactfully turn the tide.

Being a rather cynical person, I was wondering what the Clarkson administration would do with a sudden influx of almost $1,400,000 in unused athletic scholarship money.

Do we think that that money would be used to further the academic aims of our dear Alma Mater? Heck no!

What I propose is the creation of the Clarkson Leadership Scholarship Fund. The CLSF will annually dole out $2,000,000 in scholarships to individuals who demonstrate leadership skills that are valuable to the overall growth of campus life, liberty, and the pursuit of the Holy Grail.

If 36 of those scholarships went to individuals who happen to play on the hockey teams, so be it. Heck who am I to judge the leadership skills of 36+ fine young men and women who happen to wear a funny shoe 34 times per year.

Cynically yours and a take that! to the purists.
