Are there any other chat or roundtable locations that Clarkson fans meet at now? There never seems to be any action on this sight at all. I would love to talk to anyone about anything. I even go to the SLUT sight to get more info than I get here for the last couple of years. Do people not care about Clarkson Hockey anymore?

Signed,
Concerned and Perplexed

I believe that the problem isn't so much one of lack of awareness of the site, but one of reputation. However, all the same, I'm just as saddened as you by the lack of action, and I want to do everything possible to remedy the situation.

Rick O'Donnell's Roundtable was, almost immediately from its 1996 inception, the premier hangout site for Clarkson hockey fans. Rick disappeared from the Net sometime in 1999, and was unable to continue supervising the Roundtable. It then slowly (but surely) degenerated into little more than an all-out flamefest and mud-slinging rumor hole, due to lack of supervision and moderation. This continued until Clarkson's University Communications department finally had the site shut down in early 2000 due to a mounting number of complaints. [It had been hosted on a Clarkson computer]

Unfortunately, I believe this reputation has persevered, even in the face of the changes that have taken place over the last eighteen months: first Pete McLean re-established the site on Yahoo in the summer of 2000 (?), then I (with Pete's encouragement) contracted with a hosting provider in May 2001 so that people wouldn't have to let Yahoo sell their personal information to marketers in order to participate.

I think the only way to fix the situation is to get the word out that we're back, this board is here to stay, and this board will not degenerate into the horror show that the old one did.

As part of getting the word out, I've purchased advertising on the Daily Jolt (a Clarkson student hangout site) on a trial basis, and am waiting to get some statistics on its effectiveness before deciding whether to continue with it. I'm also considering utilizing other Clarkson media such as the Integrator, WCKN, and the Clarkson radio stations.

At some point, I'd also like to flesh out the rest of the site -- although the hockey portion of Clarkson's athletics site (http://www.clarksonathletics.com/) basically covers all the bases that I would have.

I'm also working on getting an IRC chat server going, although an outage on my DSL line is complicating this somewhat. I'm also considering the idea of having some moderators/assistant administrators help out, in case I'm temporarily unable to supervise the board.

Rest assured, I will not rest until the magic is back...

Scott,

I am one of those whose lasting impression of the Roundtable was that it was "little more than an all-out flamefest and mud-slinging rumor hole." That was my only experience with it. I had never seen the Roundtable in it's glory years.
I must say that you've done a great job with it. I applaud your efforts. I am hooked. I think others will be again when their misperceptions are dispelled. This site is fun, and informative. It also can serve to boost the fans spirits who may be down due the the downturn of the ECAC. Let's keep up the good work and get the word out!

Scott,

I want to thank you for your time and effort.

The O'Donnell site was a great one at first but it did go down hill.

I hope that the people that truly care about Clarkson Hockey will find their way here.

Having been a Golden Knight fan for over 50 years I am greatful for a site like this.

Well were degrading here fast. A few, or maybe 1 or 2 posing as few, seem more interested in spreading rumors, creating controversy and trying to blemish the coach/program than they are in discussing and supporting Clarkson hockey.

Wrong Chuck, we are all concerned with Clarkson Hockey and would like to see the best thing done for the club. You seem to be out of touch with the team and what is actually going on. In no way are any of us spreading rumors, what you read is in fact the truth.

until the news officially comes out, these are rumors. Noone knows if the people claiming they are truth actually know anything. If it is truth we will know when it comes out. until them, what is the point of posting about it?

I'm looking into this. If it's someone using multiple accounts, I'll be able to find that out, and all of the accounts will be permanently locked.

(I just got home from work, and this is the first I've heard of any of this!)
