If you did not hear about the van accident on Tuesday night,... a van carrying 13 members of the CU FIRST Robotics team crashed near Massena, killing one student immediately and injuring 12. One pep band member, Matt Schmigel, a junior trumpet player, was severely injured, and passed away the next day. Another, Melissa Hand, a freshman sax player, was severely injured also. There is a scholarship fund being formed for Matt, and the Pep Band will be collecting for that and for a gift for Melissa at the games this weekend. We will also be conducting a moment of silence before the national anthems. Visit the DailyJolt at http://clarkson.dailyjolt.com for more info about the accident. (Also, a CU Prof, Charlie Mosier, died of a heart attack on Tuesday night.) It has been a very trying week for our campus. Please contact me at demockep@clarkson.edu if you have any questions or would like to donate to Matt's scholarship fund.

Personally, I am as saddened as anyone on campus, with regard to the recent tragedies. Even though many of us are unable to be there with you on campus, please know that we're grieving alongside you and the Clarkson community at large.

I am donating to both Matt's scholarship fund and to the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad in Prof. Mosier's memory; I encourage each reader of this Roundtable to do the same.

Demock, could you please post the particulars of donation -- i.e. a mailing address for people to send their checks. (In particular, I don't have an address for the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad)

Thank you very much. [I also emailed this response to you]

I am so sorry to hear about the van crash. My sympathies go out to the students and their families. I am also very sad to hear about Dr. Mosier. He was one of my favourite professors at CU and I always looked forward to his class. Thank you for putting up the donation information.
