Because the USCHOL correspondents have not seen the Clarkson Golden Knights play hockey recently, they could not comprehend just how hard the team worked against Colgate and Cornell. That just must have been one of the reasons why Becky and Jason chose Dartmouth to defeat Clarkson.
The Golden Knights' work ethic is picking up momentum. We saw a very disciplined team play Cornell--one which took few penalties. Undoubtedly Cornell realizes that a lucky deflection of the puck gave them the winning goal on Sunday.
I believe the team feels they can do their job effectively this weekend. Certainly, their fans should be optimistic too.
BEAT BIG GREEN TOKNIGHT!
WOW, what's in the Friday Knight Pregame water. 6 goals last week and now 7 goals this week.
The good:
We actually beat a team with a winning record
7 goals
John Sullivans 1st goal as a Knight :) Congrats
The penalty Kill
The not so good:
Too many penalties again (I sound like a broken record)
Latulippe getting a 2 min minor and 10 min game misconduct
5 goals given up
Well, it's time to get a 4 point weekend. A loss tomorrow will be a disaster.

Congratulations Clarkson Golden Knights! If I am not mistaken, in this game, we scored our highest number of goals so far this season. I am still disturbed by the large number of assessed penalties the Knights received--way too many. The victory was not pretty, but the number of goals we scored was.
Accolades to Randy Jones who had three assists and one goal and to John Sullivan, our first Golden Knight from New Hampshire in years, who scored his first goal of the season and also assisted on David Reid's last goal.
Dartmouth exhibited relentless perseverance, and they fought back to the bitter end. But, there is no question that the Golden Knights have the goal of a four-point weekend as a major focus.
LET'S GO TECH--VICTIMIZE VERMONT.
OUR KNIGHTS ARE AWESOME.

I was at the game last night and wasnt that impressed with our play. I know we won but we werent playing the strong play that we did last weekend and in Denver. And the penalties are unbelievable. when Jay Latullipe argued with the ref in the 3rd towards the end, he ended up getting a 10 minute. All because he argued with the call (shot on the net after the whistle). Stupid stupid move....oh well, at least we still got a win.
The good: DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE. It is still amazing to me that the defense are helping so much with the scoring. Great game for them except those two Dartmouth goals which trickled in at the end of the game to get it to a 6-5 game.
-Also, Rob McFeeters, Dave Reid, Chris Bahen, John Sullivan, Kevin O'flaherty, and Randy Jones...thanks for the goals!! Good work...lets keep on shooting!! And scoring!!!
I was impressed with the fact that we had only minimal shots yet we had 7 goals. GREAT WORK!!!
The bad: definitly the penalties. Not working as hard as the past couple of weekends. couple of screw ups with the defense and offensive plays.
Oh well, the game is a win...lets hope we win against UVM. We need a 4 point weekend. And a win every weekend after that:p
Anyone at the game want to comment on the play of Traylen. Usually when the goalie is at fault Josh or Bob let us know. Did not hear anything on any of the goals as to whether any were softies (other than the 4 goal that went in off Bahen's skate).
By the way, welcome back to Josh on the color commentary. I've certainly missed his insiteful commentary the last oh 4 - 6 games. Hope you don't miss too many more this year.

I thought Traylen played well. The last two Dartmouth goals were soft but one went off Bahen's skate...and the other one went so slowly over the line I honestly thought I would go nuts. All in all, Traylen is definitly playing well. I would imagine Coach Parker would put him in tonight...just like he did with Walsh last weekend. But who knows......
WOW A FOUR POINT WEEKEND :) :) :) .
The good:
Dustin Traylens 1st Collegiate shut out. May you have many more.
Randy Jones Game Winner
Excellent Defense
After some opening period penalties, managed to stay out of the box in the 2nd and third.
The not so good:
Only 1 goal. What is it with Sat Knights. I vote we move next weeks SLU game to Friday :) . Beat those Saints.

hey Vic, I was thinking the same thing. Coach can you switch the game to friday night???:p
I enjoyed the 4 point weekend for sure and I definitly think it helped boost the players up for the tough weekend against our rival.
Again last night, it wasnt as strong a play as I have seen the past two weekends. we have to sharpen up our passing for sure. And also, I dont think I have ever seen the shots on goal ever so low for Clarkson. On the other hand, it was great to see the knights not take as many penalties...although at times, I wondered if the ref was sleeping on the ice?!
Oh well, lets take the win and head on to next weekend. I read in the Watertown Paper that coach Parker had said that whoever is winning is who is going to start each weekend. So it looks like Traylen will play against SLU. I would like that definitly...and I really believe Traylen is coming into his own and getting more confidance. Although Walsh has played against them and knows the rivalry....who knows...i would put Traylen in because he got us a 4 point weekend and shutout (although it seems like the defense are what is carrying the team recently).
GOOD LUCK against the SLU players this weekend. Let's continue winning and rise to the top of the ECAC!!!

Well I'm not sure I agree with that statement but I ain't the coach :) . To me whoever is sharpest in practice leading up to the weekend should get the first start and then you go from there. Not sure I would have started Traylen against Vt after giving up 5 the previous knight but his performance again shows you why I am not the coach :) .
Still this weekends game is against our biggest rival and Mike Walsh is the senior. Unless I saw something in practice to tell me otherwise I would give the start to my senior netminder.
Whoever is in the nets good luck. LGT.

One other good thing for the weekend.
We made the pair-wise. We may be in 29th place (tied with Northeastern), but in order to get to #14, you gotta be in the PWR first!!
Good luck against SLU.

I just got home from Potsdam, a 5 hour drive (6+ when you count stopping in Warrensburg to change 2 diapers and bring the 3 year old to go "pee pee") so I'm a little behind here. Traylen looked very composed between the pipes in both games. What happened at the end there on Friday, I can't really explain but in the second period one of the DC goals, maybe there first(?) I am pretty sure was hit in with a high stick, I'd like to have seen an instant replay but it was right in front of me and I was sure the ref was gonna wave it off and he never did, but this is a little late to worrying about this now maybe some else saw it and can comment.
I agree with the comments here about the passing, but I did see some good hard work out on the ice the penalties were better on saturday but Latulippe could work on his temper a bit ;) . Saturday was a lot of dump and chase hockey, but I don't mind that you get to see some nice scrums in front of the net that way, hey the Bruins won Stanley Cups dumping and Chasing. It's not gonna work every knight, but it's not bad to resort to when necessary.
I'd like to thank all the players for taking the time after the game to stop and shake hands, pose for pics and sign autographs for the kids, don't EVER lose that sincerity it make the parents as happy as the kids. GOOD LUCK against the Sluzers!

Well Tim you have to remember you are talking to old "The glass is half empty" Vicb :) . If I really though we had a good chance of getting one of the top 2 spots I'd say "bring it on" too. However lets looks realistically at what we have left. At home, SLU, Union, RIP, Yale and Princeton. I'd say the chances of us going 5-0 at home are fairly good; SLU, Yale or Union I'd rate as concerns. RIP usually rolls over when they come here and Princeton I'd be extremely disappointed if we lost to them at home. I'd certainly take 4-1 and would be really disappointed at 3-2 or less. On the road its Cornell, Colgate, Princeton, Yale, Vermont, Dartmouth, Harvard and Brown. Realistically if I look at those games I'd say Colgate, Princeton and Vermont should be wins, Yale, Dartmouth and Brown are 50-50 and I'd rate Cornell and Hahvad as two I'd be elated if we could pull off wins. So lets say we go 4-1 at home and play .500 on the road 4-4. That gives us a league record of 13-8-1, not good enough to realistically catch Cornell and probably not Hahvad either. The question is, can someone like Yale and Dartmouth get on a roll and overtake us for 3rd and 4th. Then we are relegated to having to play in the opening round. I'd say that scenario is probably more plausible than us catching Cornell or Hahvad. Hope the guys read this and plant it on the locker room wall and use it as motivation to prove me wrong :) .

Congratulations to the Golden Knights on their four-point weekend.....a total team effort. To my knowledge, this is the first such accomplishment of the season. What an incentive for the team to continue their winning ways this coming weekend.
After Clarkson's Saturday victory over UVM, I heard Josh Bartell discussing the goalie situation on the radio. Apparently Fred Parker has told Mike and Dustin that the goalie who wins will be the one to continue playing until he loses. That means we will probably look at Dustin Traylen playing Saturday knight against SLU.
I would imagine that knowing you are the chosen goalie would compel you to be your best in practice. On the other hand, the other goalie will have to keep himself very sharp in order to be ready when his turn comes around. One of the Golden Knights told me that the team would work hard no matter which goal tender was playing. Does anyone have any thoughts on this matter?
This week Clarkson has two ECAC Honor Roll recipients: they are Randy Jones, who had two goals and three assists this weekend and Kevin O'Flaherty, who had one goal and three assists.
These wonderful victories seem to set a pleasant tone for this entire week. We will savor those four points for a while.
If I remember correctly, we only lost to Cornell and Harvard by one goal. It would not be illogical to think we could beat these two teams by the same margin in their rinks. Time will tell.
OUR KNIGHTS ARE AWESOME!

Vic in I agree with your entire post, except that the Colgate game worries me, we've already beaten Colgate twice this year and I see it as very difficult to beat any team 3 times in the same season, add that to the fact that it's a road game and... well let's say I hope that the boys have their A game that knight.
Goldie, yes we lost to Hahvad and the Aggie school by only one point but that was in our rink and they both have difficult rinks to win at so... again I think the Knights can do it but it's easier said than done for sure.

Having seen both the Harvard and Cornell games this year, I think that pulling one off at Lynah would be a conquest so to speak, but I think Clarkson has at least a decent chance at Bright. The Cornell game was (a few spurts nonwithstanding) played in the neutral zone or our end, and the game was also reasonably well-officiated. I think that the 3-2 score was indicative of the team's relative play that night, and neither team seemed to be doing neither stellar nor poor.
On the other hand, I really believe Harvard squeaked one by with the 2-1 victory. The first goal came on a defensive turnover that left a wide open chance, and Harvard had their top performers (Pettit, Moore, and Dov Morris who spent most of the night on his head) playing great hockey. Also, the officiating that evening was horrendous (admittedly both ways, but it seemed like Clarkson had more high quality chances negated due to non-calls than the other way around). Clarkson outchanced Harvard and wins the game if they get a bounce or two their way.
EIther way though, I think both games will be close and hard-fought, and I'm reasonably sure that neither Cornell nor Harvard will be looking past their respective matchups with Clarkson. And in the spirit of not looking past anybody, here's hoping for a big game by the guys against SLU Saturday!
