View Full Version : Clarkson - SLU Game 1
My guess is this will be a close one possibly even OT. Make it 3-2 Knights :) . Look for Mike Walsh in the nets. Goals for us by Blight, McFetters and O'Flaherty in OT for the winner :) . LGT LGT LGT

Vic, my feeling is that tech will take this one rather easily (KNOCK ON WOOD) I think I picked a 2 goal difference on the big board, but my feeling is that the Knights will carry the play.
God I hope this isn't a jinx...
Maybe I shouldn't post this..

Vic,
Your commentary on the Ohio State games was extraordinary, comprehensive, and accurate.
I feel certain that pathetic excuse for a referee, John Murphy, was the same one who was in charge of a Clarkson/UVM quarter final game at Cheel several years ago. During that game, a UVM player, Graham Mink, crashed purposely into Mike Walsh, knocking Mike unconscious to the ice. Mike required 14 stitches and was forced to leave that game. Never was a penalty called against UVM for a blatant attack on Mike. I wrote to the ECAC Commissioner about that incident. I can't seem to comprehend why John Murphy was ever permitted to referee another game of hockey, as this "no penalty call" was one of many countless mistakes he has made. Believe it or not, Merrimack Coach Chris Serino was recently reprimanded for making accusations against this same John Murphy. In my opinion, college hockey would be better off with no referee than it would be having Murphy on the ice. I perceive him as a shameful disgrace to the profession.
Well, on to THE GAME on Saturday knight. I suspect that Mike Walsh will be the chosen goal tender. Mike's years of experience in dealing with SLU would make him my choice for that role. Emotions always run high for this rivalry. I'm not sure how the SLU goaltenders have done this year, but I don't believe any of them have the game experience Mike Walsh has.
As this will be the first ECAC game for both Clarkson and SLU, it should be one heck of an exciting game, with both teams wanting their first ECAC points of the season.
My thoughts are that Clarkson will win THE GAME, but only by a couple of goals, not a blowout.

Jason and Becky at USCHOL have finally provided their speculation for our game tomorrow knight. They predicted a 4-3 CLARKSON victory over SLU.
My prediction is that Clarkson will win by at least two goals.
Does anyone else care to venture a guess?
We are having a bit of snow in some areas of the North Country today, so it is an appropriate atmosphere for the big game.
CLARKSON FANS WANT THOSE FIRST TWO BIG ECAC POINTS!

UNFREAKINBELIEVEABLE. The captain no less gets himself suspended. Losing Reid, Bahen and Jones on defense. Things could get REALLY ugly toknight. That probably means Carosa has to go back to defense with Scuderi, Nagai, Good and Breckelmans. Still leaves us 1 defenseman down. Well just have to really buckle down and hope Walsh can saves us toknight.

Inexcusable friggin' behavior from our supposed "leaders" of the team.
On organized sports teams I played on years ago, if a captain got himself suspended or sat down for off the field nonsense, the rest of us would be all over him. Thats the kind of "feedback" guys respond to!

okay wooo slow down.
Obviously you guys havent heard the facts yet. Supposedly there has been a lot of problems with the team this year, conflicts with the coaching staff.
I spoke with many people over the course of the weekend, both boosters and players and there is a lot more that is going on then is being discussed in the open. First of all the reason the captains sat the first period of the game was because they were late for an 8am practice on wednesday morning. However, many of the players did not know that there was a practice, because it is usually on monday or something. HUGE LACK OF COMMUNICATION ON THE COACHING STAFF it seems. However that is no excuse and both parties are to blame, but it is kinda of weird to me that the coaches wouldnt make that clear. My idea is that Morris wanted to make an example out of the captains and Jones, Latuilppe and Traylen (they were all included).
Add this with some of the other things that I have heard and I think that the team is in serious trouble. As a group added with the coaching staff there is a lot of issues at hand.

TBCH13,
Your concerns are well stated, and from what I understand quite accurate. The seriousness of these problems have escalated far beyond description here on this forum.
I would like to respectfully request that true Clarkson fans withhold as many negative statements as possible. Instead of blaming the players or the coaches, it might be better to refrain from unpleasant comments until this ordeal has been settled. Many players' parents read what is written here on this page, so please have some compassion for them as well as their children.
I am very worried about the future of Clarkson hockey this year. It is evident that major changes need to be made in order for the Golden Knights to be successful this season. My prayers are with the coaches and the team members for a equitable resolution to these problems.

I agree Goldie, as fans we probably know too much already and we should all agree that controversy is bad for the team and the program so we should not perpetuate it here. We should just cheer and support our team through the good times and through times of adversity!

Excellent point brought up by both Goldie and Chuck. We should stay away from the bashing as parents and fans.
We should not rush to judgement for or against anyone. We are sometimes swayed by "inside information". This same information is usually biased on the side of the person telling the story.
We should allow these young gentlemen to work things out and come up with a solution. I do not believe that anyone else can be involved. Let the Coaches, players and administration resolve the issue.

There's obviously a big problem going on here. And i don't think that by not duscussing it, things are going to even out. Whatever happend before the game is a serious issue...to bench not one but all captains before the game means the Morris wanted to make a statment... in my opinion the guy should either have made them sit the whole game or let them play the whole game. We all daw that they were not into it when they were put in the second period. Bad desision by the coaching staff .....

Has anyone read the posts that the SLU fans are posting on their message board about this past weekends suspensions? Here is just a preview for those of you who have yet to read them.
"I was asked why there is such a rivalry between the two teams and my answer was the distance between the two schools and the fact that the nearest ECAC Division I school is three hours away. However, after receiving an email (as did all employees here on campus) from a Clarkson student this morning, I'm beginning to wonder if the students from Clarkson are the ones making it such an issue! Talk about poor sportsmanship and sore losers! The SLU community has much more class than Clarkson could ever dream of and I am proud to be a part of that community. As far as blaming the ice for the penalty shot being missed, excuses, excuses, as another writer stated, Ackley placed on the same ice! It seems to me that Morris and his players are always coming up some sort of excuse for losing a game. May be they should just realize that the best team won!"
"The Weight Room 6 is good for a laugh, that is about it. Back in 89-90, Marsh removed the C's from Day and Murray for disciplinary reasons for the tourney at Maine. Personally, I would never disadvantage the rest of the team by not playing the best players unless what they did was bad enough to warrant a 'real' suspension. I wouldn't even make it public. Instead of talking about it to the Watertown times I would have the players skating the butts off on Monday and doubling up on Weight room time. It was a strange set of events. I personally hope Clarkson does use it as an excuse. If anything, those guys should have been better rested for the third, and we still beat them. Bad ice....you have to give credit where credit is due. I think this demonstrates the point that Morris is less inclined to do this and more inclined to whine. But hey, that is his decision. At the end of the day, how does that appear to the public and the fans. I just got a laugh from it. Maybe he saw the guys against the US-18 team and was scared they would lose and wanted to give himself an excuse to explain it. The real excuse is that there was a solid team effort, a commitment to defense, and a solid goaltending effort."
As Clarkson fans and supporters we know there are serious issues going on....whether it's things we are seeing with our own eyes, hearing from the players themselves, hearing from others or reading in the papers....it's not our business to point fingers and make accusations....or start fights between each other. We need to hope that these situations get straightened out soon and just be here to support OUR TEAM!! NO MATTER WHAT!!
Gotta love our Knights!!
:D
Whatever is happening or not happening with the team, coaches, or anything else, most of us at SLU wish the best for your program (when you're playing someone else, that is). I hope that everything gets straightened out as soon as possible so you can get back to thinking hockey and so the biggest news coming out of the next Clarkson/SLU game is the drubbing that the Saints give you guys in Potsdam.
;)
Good luck and make sure your guys wear out RPI on Friday night.
