View Full Version : Clarkson - Ohio State
Well I talked my wife into going to Cowlumbus for the OSU games on Oct 26-27. Anyone else going? Anyone know where the team would be staying and places to stay near the campus that are inexpensive?

Vic,
Thats awesome dude! :D What kind of airfare did you get?
Doubt I can make it...but I am booked, with or without the wfe, for the Hockey Homecoming in P-dam in November.
Good luck in Columbus...when I was there in '84 (?) for a wedding, and stayed at the Holiday Inn x the street from campus...reasonable...I searched for a ststue of Woody Hayes to urinate on...couldnot find it!
Hope you have better luck!
Really...have a great trip!

Frappacino(sp?). I used to hate the things, but, after making numerous late night excursions in the last few months, they have proved invaluable. Make sure they are ice cold and you have multiple flavors. You can drive for 48 hours straight with that liquid speed.

Ahh, the praises of liquid caffeine...:D
I started drinking coffee at the age of 13, & switched to black coffee at 15. It got me through all-nighters in high school & at Clarkson, and it helps even today, with the all-day coding binges I do at work.
WorldCom sure doesn't screw around when it comes to coffee: their Colorado Springs facility has coffee vending machines & free Folgers machines all over the campus (six interconnected buildings, 3 or 4 floors each), and has 2 in-house coffee shops, AND the cafeteria serves Starbucks & a 'house blend'.
I wish Clarkson did something like that during my time there...they didn't open Java City until after I graduated.

While at Tech my roomate and I used to go through 2 - 12 cup pots of Black no Sugar juice a day. We usually had a visitor or two but we still drank a lot of coffee. Recently my doctor asked me how many cups I drank a day. When I told him "6-7" he said "1 is enough". "Maybe for you it is!" was my reply. He doesn't like my humor:confused: .

I never touch the stuff. Never could aquire a taste for coffee. As for the drive to Cowlumbus, my wife and I will start out early Friday and take a leisurely drive part of the way there site seeing along the way. Probably won't get to the Cowlumbus till Sat afternoon. My guess is she will have me stopping in every Rubber Stamping Store we can find on the way.

Had to change my plans inorder to stay at the team hotel :) . Got my room for Fri-Sat Knight. Travelocity had best rate I could find $76/knight plus taxes for 2 knight stay or pay $119 for 1 knight. Marriott site is $89/knight for 2 knights to get that rate or pay $139. Planning to leave after Sun afternoon's game and drive 3-4 hours back towards Merryland. Pricing at hotels is frustrating. Anyway, the drive on Friday will be not quite as leisurely but what the heck. LGT.
Anyone know who I can email at Clarkson about tickets to the Ohio State Series? Is there a block of tickets or at least a known section where Clarkson fans/parents may be sitting? Thanks. Don't think these games will sell out 17,000 fans so I'm in no hurry :) . Ohio State has a great site for ordering tickets on line to all their sporting events.

Last year, when I went to the Clarkson/Colorado College series, I got my tix from the World Arena's group-sales department, to which I had been referred by clarksonalumni.com. They put me in with other Clarkson fans.
I can't find anything regarding the CU/OSU series on clarksonalumni.com -- it could be that tix probably aren't on sale yet. I'd probably check with the Clarkson Alumni Association to see if they know anything yet (315-268-6467).

Vic,
Last year when I went to the Ice-Breaker in Orono, ME I just called the Clarkson box office and paid with my credit card. They mailed the tickets to me... Or maybe there was a will call table at the game... it went so smoothly I forgot.
Let's hope for all of our sakes but esp. Vic's that the Tech slow start bug isn't in effect this year!!:D

Thats interesting...Scott was the arena manager previously and has since run their motels, which I recommend, by the way. Not sure what else he's been doing.
A good choice!

Chuck, thanks for posting this. Fortunately, my travel arrangements accommodate this change :) . We decided to fly instead of drive and will be flying to Cleveland on Fri morning and coming back from Cleveland Sunday night. It was cheaper to fly into Cleveland than Cowlumbus and the drive is only about 2 hours. Since we don't have to pay for a hotel Sunday night or the extra gas for the drive to and from Merryland, the flight almost pays for itself. Already have reservations at the team hotel (unless that has changed) for Friday and Sat night. Now I just need to order 2 tickets.

I ran across this article about the goalie that the Knights will (I assume) be facing this weekend. I thought it was interesting.
OSU Goalie (http://sports.yahoo.com/m/ncaah/news/uwire/20021003/uwire-ooa-ohiostategoaliem.html)
Let's go Tech!!
This weekend should be a good test of the offenses "finishing" power. Hopefully we'll see some improvement over last year.
Let's go Tech!!
Betz has played in all 3 Buckeyes official games so far this season, so it's a good assumption that he'll be in net against the Knights.

Again, I was poking around trying to figure out what to expect for this weekend and stumbled across a very nice publication by OSU for their hockey team...
http://graphics.fansonly.com/photos/schools/osu/sports/m-hockey/auto_pdf/102302.pdf
Boy I'd Love to see Clarkson put out something like that. I'm pleased every year with the Media Guide that Gary et. al. put out so I'm sure they'd do a great job on something like this :D .
EDIT - OK so now I figure out that this isn't put out by OSU but by Collegesports.com OSU is simply a member, so to speak, of this website...
Well, Jason and Becky pick us to lose twice and Paula Weston picks us to lose twice over at USCHO. Looking forward to seeing us prove both of them wrong . LGT LGT LGT.

Well, well, well, so the "EXPERTS" Jason, Becky, and Paula, do not choose Clarkson to win either game. Jason and Becky agree that Clarkson will lose 4-2 toknight and 3-2 Sunday. Then Paula says both games will be won by Ohio State 4-3.
Jason and Becky provided the feeble excuse that Ohio State will win because they have played two more games than the Golden Knights. While Ohio State has won two games, lost one game, and tied another, perhaps those statistics won't be as meaningful as some people believe.
VIC--have a great weekend in Ohio. You will be among many cheering for the Golden Knights to win both games. We look forward to your reviews of these games.

Bummer that we lost tonight. Maybe some one should tell the boys that Dave Taylor will be watching a good portion of their Sunday game in Columbus.
I had a nice chat with Dave during the third period at MSG tonight, watching his Kings demolish "my" Rangers...he loved it. Seems that LA is playing Columbus there Sunday overlapping the Tech game so he'll be able to catch a couple of periods of the game against OSU.
Lets go guys...put on a show for Dave!!!

Unfortunately I was unable to listen to the game last knight, due to poor planning on my part. It sounds as if it was a pretty good game but that the penalties hurt us again!!!:( Man I hope that can get straightened out so the team can concentrate more on scoring. USCHO reports that Walsh had a heck of a game. I had him picked for my Knight of the night, does anyone know who Bob and Josh picked last knight? Well I was hoping for three points this weekend but a split would not be bad, this OSU squad looks pretty good this year.
Hey that's great to hear that Taylor will be at the game Sunday hopefully his presence will rewarded with a great performance by the knights!!
Let's Go Tech!

What a shame the Golden Knights lost last night. I did listen to all the game, but because I was so disappointed that Clarkson lost, I turned the radio off at the end of the game, so I don't know who the Knight of the Night was. I understand that Mike Walsh played an outstanding game, but we had at least one costly turnover.
From what I can remember, one of my favorite Golden Knights had three penalties in the third period, so it was apparent that the Golden Knights could not fully concentrate on scoring when they had to concentrate instead on not allowing Ohio State to score on the power play.
It was also my distinct impression that this Ohio State team was continually harassing and abusing the Golden Knights--thus when retaliation occurred, which those officials ALWAYS saw, Clarkson went to the penalty box.
Congratulations to Trevor Edwards and Jay Latulippe on scoring their goals.
LET'S GO TECH--BEAT THE BUCKEYES ON SUNDAY.

I need to retract a statement I made earlier this morning concerning the scoring of Clarkson's first goal Friday knight. When Clarkson's first goal was initially announced, I was certain that Trevor Edwards was given credit for it. Evidently, after reviewing the goal, Kevin O'Flaherty was credited with scoring Clarkson' first goal, with assists going to Trevor and Robbie McFeeters. Sorry.
