I was passed the other day by some guy with the RPI seal (not the puck man) on his license plate, similar to the way they have them for some of the New York sports teams. How come we can't get those?

I don't know how New York does it, but Colorado has a University of Colorado alumni license plate (possibly others). To get it, you'd need to prove that you were an alumni.

I never heard of an RPI specialty plate, though. (Any NYers know anything about this?)

Never seen anything like that down here in the NYC - LI region; just the old "Liberty" plates, the new "Empire" plates, a few (very few) pro sports team plates, and some "regional" plates (i.e., Long Island with a picture of the beach and a grapevine, NYC with the skyline, Finger Lakes with a waterfall, etc.).

Does the North Country have its own "regional" plate? I know that there are LI, NYC, Hudson Valley, Catskills, Capital District, Finger Lakes - assume that there is also Western, Leatherstocking, Adirondacks, and NC. If anything, this might be the spot for SLU and Clarkson logos!

Here's the link you need:
NYS College Plates (http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/col.htm)
Looks like Clarkson alums are out of luck.:( Maybe if there's enough interest the college could be pursuaded to pursue the option??

-Interesting that a couple of out of state schools have the plates... I guess I'll never see a Tech plate in Mass. though!

Hey, if Dowling College (where?!?) can have one, why can't we?

Thanks, Chuck, for finding the DMV's site. Funny how a guy from Mass. is the one that found it!

I don't know how New York handles new plate requests, but in Colorado, I think there has to be a certain number of people committed to buying the new plate before the Dept. of Revenue will consider making it.

According to clarksonalumni.com, there are all of 376 Clarkson alumni (including me) living in Colorado...and I think the 'magic number' is 2,000.

In Virginia, I see more specialized license plates and personal message license plates in one week, than I could "search for" in New York in a year.

UVA this.
Virginia Tech that.

Dowling College = academically weak, local (i.e., commuter) college in East-Central LI. Main feature is its ownership of a fancy old mansion that I believe was August Belmont's summer home.

I agree... if this school has personalized tags, then 40-50 other NY institutions should as well.
