I like the Zarbos on the same line. Should be a fun one. I didn't get to listen to Brown, so I'll be flipping back and forth between this and the Giants game

From the box score, it sure looked like this was an ugly game, particularly at the end. What actually happens with a "team game misconduct," anyway?

I was about to ask the same thing. I was suprised to see the game attendance was 1800 and change, especially going up against the Giants game today.

Just two quick notes before going to bed.
Joe, the other official was Mike Emanatian....who was there when the game began. It goes without saying that we can always do without the services of John Murphy.
MK5198, the attendance was definitely down from last knight. There were 1,850 shown as being present Sunday. It must be that SLU has a lot more Giant fans, as their attendance this afternoon was about 724.
A THREE-POINT WEEKEND IS NOT TOO BAD, CONSIDERING SLU EARNED ONE.:)

Here we are sweetly savoring Clarkson's victory over Yale yesteday. From what I understand, during the overtime period a Yale player became entangled with one of the officials down near the Pep Band area. That occurred when the rest of the players were skating down towards the other end of the arena. Apparently the Yale coach hollered some condemning, condescending comment at one of the officials, who immediately issued a two-minute bench penalty for unsportsman like conduct. This took place at 3:40 of the five-minute overtime period. And then the merriment began, with Sam Labrecque weaving towards the net with the puck on his stick. Nineteen seconds into the Clarkson power play, Sam blasted the black bullet into the Yale net for a 5 ~ 4 Clarkson overtime win. Meanwhile as the Yale team exited the ice, their head coach, Keith Allain, decided to utter a few more uncomplimentary comments to the officials, one of whom directed him into the Yale locker room while another official assessed Yale with a bench penalty game misconduct and a Yale player, Charles Brockett, with a game misconduct. As the game was over, and no more penalties could be served, I'm unsure what good it did to issue those last two penalties to Yale...perhaps the group which says the last word (the officials) has that leverage, which goes into the record book. Does anyone know?
The Clarkson stars came out toknight, albeit a bit later than Period 1. Here is how we won:
With the score at the end of end of Period 1 favoring Yale, 2 ~ 0, Yale had scored on a power play and next a second goal on a Clarkson turnover...and then..
1. Freshman Sam Labrecque scored his third goal of the year at 2:19 of Period 2. Senior Corey Tamblyn was awarded the assist.
2. With the score now at 3 ~ 1 in Yale's favor, sophomore Ben Sexton scored his sixth goal of the season with assists from Louke Oakley and Jake Morley...that was in the 18th minute of Period 2.
3. Still in Period 2, Ben Sexton took a shot which rebounded off the glass to Louke Oakley, who immediately put it into the Yale net. Nick Tremblay who worked hard all knight also got an assist on that goal, which occurred just one minute and twenty-two seconds after Clarkson's second goal.
4. Early in Period 3, senior Louke Oakley scored Clarkson's fourth goal, with the assist given to Sam Labrecque. Less than a minute later, one of the bull dogs tied the score at 4 apiece.
The Clarkson faithful were ecstatic as the Golden Knights gathered in a victory group to celebrate their two ECAC points over Yale. One of the most important statistics of this game is that the Golden Knights were able to score on three of Yale's penalties. Happy days are here again!
Accolades to Paul Karpowich, Clarkson's Hobey Baker candidate, for stopping 38 Yale shots on goal, and thereby insuring the possibility that his team could win the game.
Just a reminder...there is only one game this coming weekend....and it should be a wild thing against the SLUzers on Saturday knight at Cheel Arena.
CONGRATULATIONS TO CLARKSON THE CONQUERORS!
Case any of you haven't seen my blog or follow me on twitter, some video from yesterday's game is there, including the game-winning goal and some Yale reaction to the officials (though you can't see the refs in the video). Also postgame interviews.

Maybe it's just me, but it seemed like O'brien was making worse calls than Murphy. At least karma caught up to him somewhat-- coming out for the 3rd, he fell stepping onto the ice.
However, there were some HORRIBLE calls-- the one that sticks out the most was a missed trip on Oakley (I think), then not 10 seconds later, we were called for a non-existant trip on Yale. Thankfully, Karpo was up to the challange and stopped anything Yale threw at him

Wasn't O'Brien the same ref that set a really nice pick on a Clarkson player that basically lead to Brown's second goal the night before?

After the Clarkson 5~4 overtime victory over Yale on Sunday, it was apparent the Yale Coach Keith Allain was incensed by several calls which the officials made.
Today he is probably even an angrier bird as the ECAC has issued a written reprimand to him for his conduct after the Sunday knight game. He lingered on the ice hollering at an official while another one calmly directed him to the Yale locker room.
"The reprimand was issued by the League staff upon review of Coach Allain's postgame actions directed to the on-ice officials after Clarkson's 5~4 overtime victory. It is in accordance with ECAC Hockey policies that prohibit 'Coaches, student-athletes, and institutional personnel from using abusive language or inappropriate conduct towarad officials before, during or after a contest whether in public or private'."
Yale returned to New Haven with only one out of a possible four weekend ECAC points. (Thank you, SLU, for making them earn that one point in a tie game.) That just increases the magnitude of Clarkson's outstanding and persevering overtime victory. The Golden Knights were just worn out after the sixty-minute regulation game, plus an overtime tie against Brown on Saturday, but they never gave up. For Sam Labrecque's overtime goal, it must have been a simply awesome personal experience. The book closes on Yale's loss with Sam Labrecque scoring the first, as well as the last, goal of the exciting game.
HEY GOLDEN KNIGHTS, CONTINUE BEING CLARKSON THE CONQUERORS!

Dick.....it should be a really interesting game if the following officials are present again at the Yale game in New Haven on February 4:
Andy O'brien, John Murphy, Jason Shattie, and Michael Emanatian...perhaps Casey can put in a request to the Commissioner to that effect.:)
I think Yale's problem this year is that they are not as good a team as they have been in the past few years; unfortunately, they possibly still have the same very high expectations of winning the ECAC.
