Today is a great day for Clarkson hockey fans, as our Golden Knights swept two good teams this weekend. The Saturday knight game was witnessed by some first-time Clarkson hockey fans, as this was Family Weekend at the University. Even though RIT took 45 shots at Paul Karpowich, only three of them went into the net; Clarkson had only 29 shots on goal, but they were able to score five times on RIT's senior goaltender.

Here is what happened and those who made it do so:

1. Matt Beca opened the scoring, just as he had ended it Friday knight against Niagara. Louke Oakley and Brandon DeFazio assisted on Matt's goal.

2. One of the highlights of the knight occurred when Captain Scott Freeman went in alone and scored a short-handed goal, while Nik Pokulok sat in the sin bin cheering. Louke Oakley was given the assist on the goal.

3. In the second period, freshman Adam Pawlick scored his second goal in two knights....what a confidence builder for this young man! Nick Tremblay and Mark Borowiecki assisted on Clarkson's third goal.

4. Not to be outdone, Tim Marks also scored his second goal in two knights, as he widened Clarkson's lead to 4 ~ 1 to start off the third period. Nick Tremblay got his second assist of the evening.

5. Just as he began the scoring toknight, Matt Beca ended Clarkson's scoring, with his fifth goal of the season....and coincidentally the Golden Knights' fifth goal of the knight. Brandon DeFazio and Julien Cayer provided the assists.

Happiness prevailed among the Golden Knights. Winning two consecutive games at home was a great boost to everyone's morale. It seems that the Golden Knights are playing as a team with their lines in sync. The sophomores show great promise, and the juniors have an added year of playing time behind them. Paul Karpowich was very sharp, covering up as many rebounds as possible and making some amazing saves.

OUR KNIGHTS ARE AWESOME, AND THEN SOME!

The thing I liked most about the weekend (besides the wins of course) was the discipline. Clarkson took only 8 minor penalties for the weekend, 3 of which came during "even it up" time in the RIT game. Considering Chip McDonald was out there Saturday knight, that's quite an accomplishment. We'll see if the disciplined play translates when they face a faster team, but for now it's a good sign.

The Knights didn't play 60 minutes either game. They seem to be awfully prone to lulls in the game, which I understand can happen for several minutes to every team, but it seems as if they lose a period or so. If they do that against SLU, they will put up a 4 or 5 goal period.

All in all, a good weekend. The freshmen didn't stick out like sore thumbs and all of the sophomores that we were waiting for to develop last year are looking good. Hopefully they can prove Joe's half-empty wrong. :D

This team is not an 11th place team.

We beat two teams with no wins and gave up 82 shots on the weekend. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves yet.

Agreed, Brett. This weekend will be a better litmus test. OTOH, there is something to be said for finding a way to win like they did on Friday night. The second period was horrible, yet they come away with a pair of goals in the last minute to take a 3-2 lead. Clarkson entered the weekend with no wins, either (exc. the Toronto exhibition) and came away with a pair against decent if lower- or mid-tier teams. I think that gives reason for optimism for better than an 11th place finish.

Count me as cautiously optimistic so far. Maybe not for a national or even ECAC championship this year (yet), but better than a week ago.
