View Full Version : Out of 2nd
We fall 8 points behind Cornell, whgo clinches the RS title, and now trail Dartmouth and are tied for third with Harvard. The team has to get some consistency heading to Placid if they want any hope. They need to put together a string of wins, at least 2 or 3 in a row anyway.
Well as Josh and Bob so aptly put it: Sometime no matter how well you play you run into a goalie that you just can't beat. That seemed to be the case Saturday. Got to give Brown credit, they took advantage fo their limited opportunities and we could not beat Danis. One thing is listening to last knights game was we were reverting back to our early season tendencies of taking stupid penalties. We lost at least one and may be 2 power play opportunities that way.
Well as this post states we are out of 2nd, and tied with Hahvad for third ( we do own the tie breaker with them). Unfortunately Colgate is 1 point back, RIP 2, Brown 3 and Onion 4. Brown and Onion hold the tie breaker over us. Next week we are at Colgate and Cornell, RIP and Onion at Hahvad and Brown and Dartmouth hosts Yale and Princeton. If we end up with 0 points next weekend, a very real possibility, we could be as low as 6th or 7th in the league and out of home ice.
Most important in my mind right now is to go into Starr Rink and win that game on Friday. Lose to Gate and we are in serious trouble for keeping home ice in the playoffs. Not since Cap Raeders last season (1987-88) as coach have we missed home ice in the playoffs. An unbelieveable streak that I would hope we can maintain this year :) .

Vic said it correctly! Not having home ice would be a major setback especially considering our woeful record on the road.
I'll be upstate next weekend, probably listening to the game at Hamilton on their radio, and AT Lynah...trying to protect my perfect record there. That will be a major task but a win over cornell would be the best confidence boost this team could get...and NEEDS!!!
It is critically important that they get all facets of the game going headed into the playoffs.
I see Desrochers played this weekend...any word on how he and the returning McFeeters looked? Thanks.

Does Clarkson beat RPI on the second tiebreaker because of number of goals scored in the two meetings? The first tiebreaker is obviously record against each other (1-1) second goals (7-4?) let's say the third tiebreaker would be coach snubbings (1-1) and the fourth would be style points (debatable) but late-game impossible comebacks should count for something!:) Too bad the goals thing comes beforehand. I think RPI's next two games are winnable given that they didn't let down this weekend after being on an emotional high the weekend before. Don't beat Cornell too badly that they're mad when they come to Troy:D
When was the last time a team won the RS going away like this (I think I know the answer:rolleyes: )- do you think they'll start to give the backup players a chance or will they try to win their last 4 games by eleventy-billion-to-nothing so that they can make noise in the nat'l polls?

Well, my guess would be that Cornell will continue to play their first and second line players, but play their third and fourth line players more often. They won't want their best players to go cold late in the season, but do want those that have not seen as much ice time to get more work in. That's my guess, anyway.
The polls, unlike football, don't count for squat, so there is no point in running up scores of "eleventy-billion to one."

Todd,
Will you be at Lynah on Sat eve? If so, lets try to hook up!

Cornell hasn't clinched the RS title yet, as they're only 7 points ahead of Dartmouth with 4 games left (and Dartmouth -- urgh -- wins the head-to-head tiebreaker).
The second tiebreaker after head-to-head record is record against the top 5 teams in the conference. Head-to-head goals doesn't come into play until the fourth tiebreaker (after record against the top 10).

Vic, isn't the first tiebreaker head to head? If so we have it over Onion we won (1-0) at Cheel and tied (3-3) at Achilles. Let's hope it doesn't matter!! We've been using the term "must win" for a few weeks now, but now it's a reality. I don't think any of us are used to this situation!:(, but if we don't get a minimum of 2 points this weekend ooh boy that'd be bad.
I personally hope Cornell pushes to the end. I was disappointed that they lost this weekend. I hope they win the rest of their RS games, except against Clarkson of course, and the lose only the final in LP (hopefully against Clarkson) that's the only hope the EZAC has for 2 teams in the NCAA's.

Mia culpa. You're right Chuck. I guess I was so disappointed at the loss at RIP that I got things mixed up. I thought we tied Onion at Cheel and lost to them at Achilles. It has certainly been a looooooooong season so far and two more losses this weekend is something I don't even want to think about right now :( .

Its clear we need to beat Colgate, and I DONT mean TIE them!
And a loss to cornell is something I DONT want to think about Vic! I know you'd have mixed feelings about it but not me! I've never seen us lose at Lynah and dont want to start now. Hearing the vulgar Lynah fans chant "you suck" ad nauseum sounds almost acceptable when you're winning! :D
This will take a maximum DISCIPLINED effort, i.e., stay out of the box!...and some stellar goaltending! Capitalizing on the few chances we are likely to get against their smothering D and solid netminders is a must too.

You bet!! Not sure where my seats are, but I'll probably wind up near Section O (all together now -- "$ucks!") ;) . How 'bout behind O after the first?
Anyone else planning to be there?

Todd,
That sounds good. My 4 seats are in the first row...my wife is in for a treat...she'll have her face pressed into the glass :D and is really gonna enjoy all those vulgar Lynah cheers!
I was told that the Pep Band will be in the top rows so while we can meet there, assuming the band plays between periods ???, we'll have to relocate to hear ourselves think!!
So who else will be there among the Clarkson fans here?

Todd,
forgot to mention...I'll definitely be wearing one of my dozen or so Tech hockey caps...and an as yet to be determined Clarkson sweater or sweatshirt.
And you?

Yes the band will be there, but we get moved around section O at least 5 times during the game. In the past three years we have been down towards the front every time. Hopefully we will be in a more reasonable location for the game this time.
