Sweet, I will be there.
I bought season tickets to RPI this year and this is included although everything I have bills this as the "Capital District Classic" which still doesn't explain why Q is there.

Q is there quite possibly because Tech and SLU already had their schedules set and could not, or would not, make a change.
Here's hoping that Quinnipiac wins the first annual New York State Governor's Cup!!!!:D
If they do it may disappear into CT and never come back - be like Denver losing (physically and literally) the annual Denver/CC trophy :D

Steve Hagwell says that the Governor's Cup is open to all hockey teams, including other conferences and Western teams. He also says that they are non-conference games even this year with all ECACHL teams. I don't like intra conference non conferernce games.

Very few NCAA title contenders want to play ECAC teams. Very, very few want to come East. Its all economics.

While I agree to an extent with this, NCAA hockey is a more cooperative bunch than other sports. Generally the better teams will schedule a game or two each year against building (or rebuilding) teams for the good of the whole. Will they come east for one of those games? No, but if Cornell is in the mix then there are teams that want to play them. They may attract some bigger names east. Also, while not on the same par as WCHA or even HEA, I believe the ECACHL has made strides and closed the gap a bit between itself and the elite leagues. I wouldn't be too terribly surprised to see some western teams in this tourney in the future if Hagwell and the league do a good job marketing it. Anyway if he thinks he can get those teams out here who are we to say he can't?
edit - this is an early season tourny, isn't it. that probably means the ivy's won't be playing yet, so never mind about cornell attracting bigger named schools
