Looks like we picked up two more recuits for 2007. Julien Cayer will join his brother, David, as a Knight, as well as Brandon DeFazio of Milton (OPJHL). :)
I looked briefly for any info on these two new additions and couldn't find anything on them. If anyone could post some info it would be greatly appreciated.

heisenberg has them both listed on his site
Julien Cayer-LW (6/9/06):::::College C.Lemoyne:::::6'2 160 7-6-89::::: (2007 or 2008)
Brandon DeFazio-LW (6/9/06):::::Milton (OPJHL):::::5'11 170 9-13-88:::::36-10-6-16-38
Cayer may want to start putting on some weight.
For the 2007 season we need to replace:
Curley---Defense
Grenzy---Defense
Beausoleil---Defense (already gone)
Sullivan---Wing
Kolu---Defense/Wing
Rutherglen---Wing
McNulty---Goal
We already have these recruits for the 2007 Season:
Rufenach---Defense
Freeman---Wing
Cayer---Wing (07-08)
DeFazio---Wing
Interesting how the recruiting trend seems to be locking up guys 1 1/2 or 2 years in advance. If all the other schools are doing it....we are forced to, or else you miss out on the top talent, but if the the guys don't develop as projected.......quite the double edge sword.
Cheers!
Drew

Thanks to those who have already posted information about Julien Cayer. If he has the work ethic and ability that his older brother David has, then the Golden Knights will definitely benefit from this agreement. Sometimes only one of David's parents has been able to attend Clarkson's games because the other one was attending Julien's games in Canada. David was Clarkson's second leading scorer last season and is half-way towards reaching membership in the enviable 100 Point Club. I personally am thrilled to know that we will have David's brother as a member of the Golden Knights.
Nothing would make me happier than to have the Stanley Cup, with its guardian Erik Cole, at the Clarkson Reunion this summer.
GOOD LUCK TO THE CAROLINA HURRICANES IN THEIR QUEST TO WIN LORD STANLEY'S CUP.

To answer most of your questions on defazio, i watched him play all year as i am a huge fan of the blades, brandon is the son of dean defazio the former NHL player , he played on the number one team in canada milton until being traded for paul dawson oakvilles captain at the trade deadline since the trade he had 13 pts in 11 gms and in playoffs had 21 pts in 19 gms, he also won the playoff mvp for the blades .... should be a good pick up for clarkson hockey

We are very happy to have selected Julien Cayer. The year spent, it played with the college Charles-Lemoyne of the League midget AAA. If we had fished out in first round, we would have made the same choice. It is a player skilful and fast with a strong potential ", Hattem commented.

Mike,
Last weekend in the Barben Rooms following the Saturday knight game, a highly touted Clarkson recruit by the name of Brian Rufenach was introduced as a member of the Class of 2007. I wondered why Brian was there for both knights, but my question was answered when you mentioned he has a separated shoulder. Brian seemed very comfortable mingling and talking with the Golden Knights. He comes to Clarkson with excellent ratings, which is nothing but good news for Golden Knights' fans.
Brian is another example of the extraordinary job our coaches have done with recruiting. I think Clarkson leads the ECAC with nine draft picks on its roster this season. After the first three games of this young season, I have absolute optimism about how well the Golden Knights will do this year.

An excerpt from the USHR report, don't know if this would be '07 or '08 but:
"Salisbury senior defenseman Kevin Quick, a Tampa Bay third-round draft pick, who, by the way, played very well at the Lightning’s rookie camp, has narrowed his college choices to Clarkson, Michigan, Ohio State, and Providence. He is currently taking his official visits and will make a decision in November."
Sounds like he would be a great pick up for us....and better yet, nice to see him consider a small school among the behemoths.
Saw that over on the UNH thread as well...Would be a nice recruit for '08. Hopefully Phil Paquet is letting Kevin know the great team Coach Roll & staff are building here.
Highly publicized to say the least

Edit: Assuming he makes his official visit by Thanksgiving...that would either be the Q or Princeton game @ Cheel. I'd assume he was an '07 if he went to Clarkson, and based on his performance @ the Lightning prospect camp.
http://hockeysfuture.com/article.php?sid=8938&mode=threaded&order=0
Kevin Quick, D
Selected 3rd round, 78th overall, Salisbury Prep (U.S. High School)
DOB: March 29, 1988, Height: 6’0, Weight: 175 lbs.
The Lightning were able to fill another hole with their second selection, choosing high-school defenseman Kevin Quick in the third round. Quick spent last season playing high-school hockey for Salisbury Prep in Massachusetts, where he picked up 23 points in 28 games.
Quick is a strong two-way defenseman countering great creativity in the offensive end with responsible play in his own end, as well as excellent foot speed and quickness. Adept at controlling the power play, Quick is willing and able to dispense the puck, but also has a great shot in his repertoire. With only Doug O’Brien in the system bringing even a modicum of power play strength, any addition would be an asset. Quick’s dynamic offensive presence helps to bolster the rear attack for the Lightning future. Though it is far too early to know for certain, Quick’s presence in the Lightning system should serve as insurance in case Dan Boyle should leave the Lightning when he becomes eligible for free agency – so long as Quick live up to his initial billing.
Quick is as of yet uncommitted college-wise, but still has another year to make up his mind about the college ranks, and to further hone his game in the hopes of attracting collegiate attention in his post-draft season.
Hopefully,
this (http://www.qnhl.com/Who-knows-somethin-about-Kevin-Quickthe-correct-question-other-was-a-typo-t-1203-2.html)is in order of preference
Report from Lightning prospect camp
Feaster called this week's prospect conditioning camp a worthy investment of time and money.
If there were a camp MVP, Feaster said Kevin Quick, the team's third-round pick in the 2006 draft, would earn the title. The GM said Quick was unbelievable in the five scrimmage games and is speaking to the defenseman and his parents about playing junior level hockey next year instead of returning to prep school on Connecticut in order to "accelerate" his progress.
Obviously not successful with getting him to move to the USHL (or other JrA) as he is playing with Salisbury again.

Scott Freeman scored 2 goals, including the GWG, in Canada East 4-1 (http://www.leaguestat.com/hockeycanada/WJA/en/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1061) win over Germany.
Edit: He was named player of the game as well. He capitalized on the German error that is referenced in the game summary (http://www.hockeycanada.ca/2/2/8/8/8/index1.shtml)
Edit: btw, the LOI period started today
Awesome. Hopefully he'll have a nice souvenir for his mantle.
Just noticed....Rufenach returned to the line up for the Lindsey Muskies, scored 2 goals and 3 assists against Cobourg on Friday night.
Brian Rufenach 10 games 4 goals and 10 assists
Scott Freeman 22 games 17 goals and 43 assists
Louke Oakley 26 games 10 goals and 31 assists
Corey Tamblyn 23 games 2 goals and 17 assists

Hey Mike,
I think it is a good assumption that Julien will begin playing at Clarkson in the 2008 ~ 2009 season. Wait until you see him. He is very tall, so much taller than his brother David, and he is very pleasant and easy to talk to. When there is not a conflict between his games and David's, Julien oftentimes comes to Cheel to watch the Golden Knights.
Thanks, Mike, for all the good newsworthy items you bring to our Roundtable.

Scott Freeman was named the OPJHL MVP, although you would be hard pressed to find it on their site as of today. Freeman/Oakley's Eagles take on the Muskies, and could possibly be matched in the playoffs (http://www.durhamregion.com/dr/sports/story/3861387p-4468157c.html).
Use this link (http://www.ohahockey.org/news_story.php?id=362) to the recap of the OPJHL All-Star game...not much to report, except Freeman/Rufenach's South-East Team got beat 8-2. Not sure how much of a "game" it really was.

I didn't start following the OPJHL playoffs until today, whereupon I found this:
The Eagles were without two key members tonight as both Scott Freeman and Kyle Goodchild were out of the lineup with illness and are doubtful for the rest of this series Apparently the illness is the flu.
The Eagles lead the Muskies 2-1 in the best of seven, after Lindsay won 4-2 (http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxscore.html?gameid=451565) (Rufenach with a goal) yesterday.
Brandon DeFazio has 3pts in 2gp (http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/playerpage.html?playerid=565040&seasonid=1653). Oakville leads Mississauga 3-0 (http://www.haltonsearch.com/hr/ob/sports/story/3879660p-4487707c.html).
We decided from the start that we'd go out and send a message," said Blades forward Brandon DeFazio, who niftily set up two of Chase Langeraap's three goals in the contest. "We wanted to take their confidence away early."
The Blades had struggled for a couple weeks after making several moves at the trade deadline, but appear to be back in fine form.
"It is tough when you play with a group of guys (most of the season) and then have these new guys, who had the potential to be amazing," DeFazio said. "It always takes a few games to jell a team together, but the guys have come in the room and it feels like they have been here all year."

He was selected to the EJHL All-star team this year, and previously played with the Rochester (Jr B) Americans, and the NYS Select 17 team ('87) with SLU recruit Aaron Bogosian
I was wondering how Ralph scooped MikeR on the new recruit, then I looked at the time of his post, it was easy pickings Ralph :D . He is not high on Heisenberg's rankings, but that certainly does not mean much. His coaches certainly speak highly of him, as do the credentials MikeR had posted. Seems to say all the right things in the Jr. Monarchs press release. Sounds like a "team" player. Any info on who else was recruiting him?
So for 2007 we have:

Freeman RW/C
Rufenach LD
Pizzo LD

I checked out his stats and a little bit about the Jr. Monarchs in general. They seem to have a pretty good level of competition. The only thing I'm scared about is 94 penalty minutes in 41 games, we don't need him and Paquet in the box together.
In the edit ... he does sound like the typical Clarkson recruit. Good player, team player, strong character. We do get our share of draft picks, but I clearly think the thing that sets us ahead is the type of character we recruit.

I saw it on Heisenberg's website. I decided to post the team's announcement since it was more informative.
As to Justin Smith, I still can't figure out how anyone can go 10-6-16 in his first 8 games, and then go 0-6-6 in his next 34 games. From Salisbury Prep Website. Nice to see someone we took from SLU :)...
Dan Reed, a sixth form defenseman from Walworth, NY, and a key member of last season's New England Championship team, recently chose to attend Clarkson University next fall. Reed chose Clarkson over many of its top competitors, including St. Lawrence, Vermont, Brown, Dartmouth, and Yale. He chose Clarkson for a variety of reasons, such as its proximity to home, its nationally ranked hockey program, and the possibility of studying Engineering, as it is a field that Reed is interested in pursuing. Clarkson competes in the highly competitive ECAC Hockey Conference. As a Golden Knight, Reed will have the opportunity to compete against many current and former teammates in the coming years.
Reed has had a great career at Salisbury, and in his own words: "Salisbury has provided a platform for me to succeed both academically and athletically at one of the highest high school levels. The faculty and coaches here all gave me the best opportunity to succeed."

So true Drew. If we want a team that will go carry our torch so well, there are the unfortunate rainstorms we have to go through. However, some of the international (not Canada, because that's just USA North) players of the past have qualified for academic scholarships. I don't believe Mikko Tavi or Marko Tuomainen were on our list of 18 scholarships (I remember them being brought up with the whining (read as Cornell) about those teams and the fact that Conroy's mother working for Clarkson gave them an additional "free" scholarship). They also said the players from Finland were on academic scholarship as part of international programs run by the University.

Well now, if we land another Finnish kid, will we hear more whining from Central New York?
Last I talked to Mikko Olilla (feb '06), he was doing grad work at Yale. He earned two degrees at Tech in 3 years, then played his 4th season as a grad student.
Not bad for one of those kids who slipped in thanks to lax admission requirements, eh?
Did they mention the position? What if it is a goalie?

Dan Reed - 04-05 NY State Champion Mcquaid Jesuit HS- Rochester, NY First Team All-State, Empire Games Gold Medalist, U-17 USA Select Festival

Dan Reed (2006), D
Produced 35 points(6-29-35) in 54 games for coach Lou Dimartino's Rochester Americans .. has the ability to change direction on a dime .. dishes out crisp, tape-to-tape breakout passes .. very mobile, with good acceleration .. his lone goal of the tourney was a stoppable shot on the powerplay that snuck through the goalie .. will join the rush to create a man advantage .. boasts a solid ability to get his point shots through and on target, however there isn't a heck of a lot on them generally .. did an effective job slowing down a speedy forward until the player simply ran out of room .. would like to see him play with a bit more of a physical presence in front of his net .. saw time partnered with Jamie McBain .. wore #2 .. USA Select 17 totals (6, 1-3-4-0).

Mike,
I read that article on the Clarkson website last knight.....thanks for posting it here. Rumor has it that there is a highly touted and outstanding recruit from Switzerland among those considering Clarkson for next season. We will just have to keep our collective fingers crossed that he chooses to be a Golden Knight. It goes without saying that once a recruit visits the University and meets the players and the coaches, his decision is much easier. This year, in particular, the Golden Knights were such close friends and played extremely well together as a team.
It is also my understanding that Julien Cayer will not be a Golden Knight until the 2008 ~ 2009 academic year. If he does indeed attend Northwood Prep in Lake Placid, that would work out well for his family to see both of their sons play hockey.
We are enjoying watching Willie Mitchell and Kent Huskins in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It was mentioned last knight that Todd Marchant had surgery about a month ago; he is currently skating and hopefully will be ready to play if the Anaheim Ducks advance to the next series. It is truly amazing to see how their hockey skills have matured, and it is just fabulous to be able to cheer for some Golden Knights in the NHL.
CLARKSON GOLDEN KNIGHTS....GLORY IS ITS OWN REWARD.

Hi Goldie - Willie's done, but it's beginning to be a slight bit more possible that there'll be two more CCT players on the cup if the Ducks keep quacking away and win 8 more. Huskins has come a long ways in a short while, and seems to be pretty comfortable playing with the big boys.

Two new recruits listed on Clarkson's Website:
Michael Kosziwka - F, (9/17/88, 6'3", 175). Michael is a Mississauga, ONT native who just completed his third season of Jr. Hockey. His numbers were less than awe inspiring until this year, where he led the Streetsville Derbys of the OPJHL in scoring. George describes him in the article as a "late developer who has a tremendous upside." Michael is also a star badminton player.
I wouldn't imgaine we'll see too much of Michael in his freshman campaign. At 6'3" and 175# he'll have to fill out quite a bit to handle the week-to-week rigors of D-1 hockey. While I didn't find too much about him online, it seems that he's found the scoring touch this season, including a 4 goal game.
Lauri Tuohimaa - F, (5/17/86, 5'11", 170). Lauri continues the long tradition of Finnish players coming to the Clarkson hockey program (save that national anthem pep banders). At 21 years old, Lauri has already played 6 years of Jr. hockey for Helsinki, the last 3 on the A team. He recently completed 6 months compulsory military service for his country. George describes him as an asset on both sides of the ice and a good replacement for Kolu.
I couldn't find much about him on the internet (it seems he shares his name with a death metal guitarist that has plenty of google hits), but he did serve as an alternate captain for Helsinki IFK in 2006-07. In his last full season with Helsinki, he played in 37 games with 12 goals and 6 assists. Helsinki is apparently one of the premiere teams in the Jr A league, even traveling to Canada yearly to play some exhibitions against QMJHL teams.

Cunti (7/4/89) was placed on the Chicago Steel's protected list (5/15/07). Originally he was carded/protected by the Lindsay Muskies.
..... on the protected list was Swiss forward Luca Cunti of HC Thurgau. Cunti is one of the top European's rated for June's NHL Draft and is looking to play in North America next season.
Certainly mixed reviews with potential
RLR (Redline Report) "Luca Cunti: Nobody helped himself more this month, or improved more since last season, than the Swiss center who led his countrymen to a huge upset win at Four Nations."
RLR - "Luca Cunti: Likes being an entertainer more than he likes being an actual hockey player. Seems to have no dedication to the game and a lot of off-ice character issues; Too bad, because his talent level is world class."
Sharkspage (http://www.sharkspage.com/2006_11_01_archive_history.html) -
15. F Luca Cunti (Switzerland) - Was impressive last year at the Viking Cup, but his real coming out party was in Sweden this year when was the most impressive player at the U-18 tournament. Cunti's strength is magnetic hands that may be unrivaled in this draft. He is a deadly finisher, and is by far the most talented offensive player to come from Switzerland in a long time. Could be this years Kopitar.
NHL CSS blog (http://www.nhl.com/blogcentral/css_nov.html)
Luca Cunti, Thurgua, Swiss B-League, 6-0, 183, LW/L, July 4, 1989 -- “Cunti will probably be one of the smoothest skaters in the draft. … He can go coast-to-coast with his rushes and he can do this against world-class competition. … Along with his excellent skating go his soft, quick hands and his excellent hockey sense. … Dangerous in one-on-one situations. … His extraordinary tools -- skating and hockey sense – should make him an attractive prospect in June.” -- Thomas Roost.
No reports yet on his combine impressions...

"Our scouts just kind of liked his potential — he's raw, he's a good skater, he moves the puck well and he competes hard," Nill said. "Skating and moving the puck are his best assets. Like everybody, he's got to get stronger. He's going to a good school and we just hope he develops."
Sounds like he will be a 3-4 year starter and will develop some skills. The write up reminds me of Clitsome.

Found this on a Hockey blog, written by a Swiss hockey fan.
This is a guy who can really help Clarkson hockey take it up a notch. He was originally projected as a first round pick. Leafs fans are not happy that they bypassed him in the second round.
I really hope Clarkson nabs him. Offense can't be taught, defense can.
He is a nice guy with quite a bright brain. He is more selfconfident than it's natural in an average Swiss personality and this is irritating some coaches, and people who surround him. As a player he is maybe the most talented prospect coming out of Switzerland, in my eyes he is more talented than former 1st-rounder Michel Riesen was, Cunti has an excellent so called "upside". Right now he is a very raw diamond with wholes in his game as not using his body enough, needs to add some grit to his game (although he has a good, strong body and very strong legs), not being involved defensiveley enough, not shooting enough). But all these things are more or less easy to learn and improve. If he has good coaches in the future and if he will learn from them - then he has a very bright future because no Swiss player has as smooth hands (he has one sensational move on his forehand), no Swiss player has such smooth and effortless skating - he has very good acceleration from 2nd to 3rd gear. In addition he has very good offensive vision because he doesnt' need to watch the puck while stickhandling, he can dish out brilliant passes and he can rush down the ice and create danger out of nothing because he is very dangerous in one on ones. He also must work with his consistency, he sometimes has shifts where he looks like a sure fire first-rounder and then he has shifts you don't even notice him. He is definitely not a can't miss prospect because he will never play in a third or fourth-line in the NHL but he has the potential to become a first- or second-liner. So if you are an organisation who is looking for a brilliant skill/skating-package with the chance to make the difference in powerplays and in creating chances out of nothing then take him quite early (between late first and early third-round). If you are looking for solid up and down grinders, reliable, no mistake-players, gritty players with and edge and the ability to shut-down the opposing offense then you won't take Cunti at all. To finish this statement: He is really prepared to do everything he needs to become an NHLer, he doesn't want to sit out his originally planned Swiss way if he can develop better in NA. He is prepared to do whatever it takes. All stories about "he never will come over", "he will go for the fast and easy money in Switzerland", "he has a bad character and is a spoiled brat" - all this is just bad rumours coming out of the still existing "Swiss reputation" - but don't forget - it's personalities not nationalities and in terms of Swiss personalities just judge what Mark Streit did do in his career. I gues he is a posterboy of somebody who really grinded out his way to the NHL despite having the chance of becoming rich in the Swiss league. I don't tell that Cunti has the personality of Streit but he is definitely also not the opposite.

65. C Luca Cunti, Switzerland, 6-0 185, 7-4-1989, Switzerland
++ World Class skill
+ Quickness, scoring touch, creativity
- Attitude, lacks an resemblance of a team oriented game.
Cunti is the enigma of the draft as he possesses a skill set worthy of a top 10 selection but his attitude is a serious question mark. He rather stick handle around three opponents with an awe-inspiring display that gets him nowhere instead of making the simple pass that would get his team a goal. Cunti is a fluid skater with a dynamic change of gears and exceptional agility as he can turn on a dime. He effortlessly can reach speeds most dream of and he’s an end to end threat. Cunti possesses world class hand skill and can execute some impressive dangles while carrying the puck coast to coast. The main concern is that he doesn’t move his feet away from the puck and his defensive effort is horrid. He can often be caught floating on the back check. Cunti also is selfish with the puck and must learn how to utilize his line mates more. That said when he does decide to share the puck he displays great vision and poise with the puck executing some creative passes. An outspoken character, Cunti is interested in coming to North America to play college hockey and might play for the Chicago Steel of the USHL next season.

Mike,
I don't think that you should assume that going to the USHL would make Cunti less likely to go to Clarkson. There sems to be an increase in interest all over in the USHL. RPI is sending (recommending, whatever verb is appropriate ;) ) two of its 2008 recruits there which we have never done before. It used to be the BCHL. Of course, we do have a new coach who might be doing things differently.

We have gotten players via the USHL in the past, but it definitely seems to be a more Western oriented league. I think that Coach Appert (who I believe is doing a fine job with the Engineers, by the way) is the main reason you're seeing the changes. George has some good connections out there too, I'm sure.

The Clarkson staff definitely has connections with the USHL as do other schools. Morris did as well in earlier years.
It's the highest level of US juniors so it's not a shock that a talented kid like Cunti would consider going there. But there are other options. ;)
MikeR
06-28-2007, 09:31 AM
I was trying not to make the assumption, Chicago = SCSU previously, but before knowing that SCSU was the "other" team, my first thought ....well looks like Cunti may be going west. Unfortunately, even with the increased prominence of the USHL, the Knight recruiting "gets" have not been from that league. I wish it was different, and may be soon.
There are other options, (a) arrive as a '07, or
(b)attend Northwood
(c) go to Chicago (where Michael Grenzy played) and attend Clarkson as a '08
IIRC, Coach Roll was involved with a USHL summer camp (archived here someplace), and am sure the staff has plenty of connections in the league. Probably the staff feels they can do as well focusing on Eastern Canada, and the prep schools with an occasional recruit from the USHL/Western Canada league, while maintaining the budget. Proven to be true so far.
CHL is out for Cunti as he was not chosen in the Import Draft.
Edit: can someone photoshop this photo (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/photo;_ylt=AvisZy5dv4j2S5TDgkg3CUBT2bYF?slug=getty-74860263rb052_2007_nhl_entr_12_52_23_pm&prov=getty) with a Knight jersey?
Also follow boltsprospects (http://www.boltprospects.com/taxonomy/term/130) for more info
If he comes great. If he doesn't, that is fine too. The coaches are ready to roll with what we have, I think D'Alvise had a big coming out party late in the year (then again he has always been one of my favorites). I expect Guthrie, Zalewski, Dodge, Cayer to have monster years. Throw in Beca, Freeman and De Fazio......Rufy to boot.....Pizzo and Reed adjusting the other teams attitude a bit......we'll be ok. :)

One other player who is on the USHL / USA Hockey Steel protected list, forward Luca Cunti of Switzerland (Tampa Bay Lightning – 3rd Round, 75th Overall), may be going directly to NCAA college hockey and does not appear on the list below at this time."

One that considered Clarkson....NEHJ (http://www.hockeyjournal.com/Article.php?ArtID=106986)
Bruins ’07 sixth-round pick Alain Goulet (http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/alain_goulet), a 6-foot-1 defenseman, started camp wearing a full cage instead of a visor. By today, he was back to wearing the more typical eye protection of the pros. So what gives?
“I was trying to get used to it,” said Goulet, who’ll attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha starting this fall.
Goulet said he’ll continue to get used to it later in the summer during workouts, but for now he wants to be more comfortable as he tries to impress the Bruins’ brass.
As for his unique choice of school, Goulet said people involved with his junior team (the Aurora Tigers of the OPJHL) had a few connections there. After he visited, he decided Omaha was the place for him. He’d also considered Clarkson and Maine.
An Ontario native, Goulet said it was always his dream to pursue a college degree.
Luca is not currently on the Steel roster, possibly waiting for a Clearinghouse determination to make his final decision.

That's a bummer. Now that he's with the enemy it's appropriate for the software to censor his name. It would have been interesting going to Lynah with both he and Grant on the roster!;).

I wonder where he found that? I don't see anything anywhere - St Cloud Times online, SCSU web site, USCHO, CHN, Tampa Bay Lightning site - nothin'.

Guys (and Gals) --
Face it, the admission standards for SCSU are (ahem) a bit looser than Tech.

Yeah, Joe, I expect you're right. Further, I bet it's easier to STAY there for four years as well (vs Clarkson)!! :p
Well, I'm not gonna dwell too long on this one. You win some you lose some and we have gotten our share. Would have been nice to have this kid but c'est la vie.
We've got some quality kids coming in to replace the senior class and I for one am glad of who we did get.

Still completing Clearinghouse paperwork (http://www.sctimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070714/SPORTS/107140005/1002)?
You may be mistaken, take a gander at this article, when Weller left it opened up his spot:

Cheers!

Perhaps it's not quite Trivial Pursuit material, but for the past three years, Kosziwka has scored the final goal of the season for three different teams, all of which either ceased operations or relocated afterwards.
God forbid Cheel burns down or the the University decides to drop the hockey program.

"...an emerging NCAA Division I school"? Sheesh.
"...an emerging NCAA Division I school"? Sheesh.
Emerging back to its glory years :) .
It appears that "he who's name cannot be mentioned" on any message board, has made his way through the clearinghouse. I hope the boys ring his bell as often as Cheel rings "the" bell on 2/1 and 2/2 . :D

EDIT: It appears he is on campus but not cleared yet!

Western Hockey Blog reports:
Cunti Returns to Switzerland
St. Cloud State forward Luca Cunti still hasn't received clearance from the NCAA and the St. Cloud Times is reporting that Cunti returned to Switzerland. Head coach Bob Motzko said it was "highly unlikely" that Cunti would ever play for St. Cloud. When Cunti returns to the US after the holiday, it's likely that he'll join the Chicago Steel in the USHL.
The issue with Cunti's amateur status comes from playing 12 games in a Swiss men's league, where Cunti was not paid to play hockey, but other players may have been.

That's quite interesting Drew. I would imagine that if he wasn't paid, he would probably qualify after a "suspension" period by the NC$$. Some players who have dabbled in the WHL have been allowed to play NC$$ after sitting a year plus the number of games played in the WHL. Army has a goaltender who just cleared via that route.

Former U-M hockey player charged with ID theft
Midday update
Associated Press
ANN ARBOR - A former University of Michigan hockey player accused of stealing a teammate's bank account numbers has been charged with identity theft.
Kevin Quick was released on a personal bond after an arraignment today. The Ann Arbor News says he's allowed to travel to and from Virginia, where he recently signed a tryout contract with a minor league hockey team.
Quick and his attorney, Matt Savage, both declined comment after the hearing.
Wolverines coach Red Berenson dismissed the 19-year-old native of Buffalo, N.Y., on Feb. 1 for violating unspecified team rules.

What a dumbass.
It's almost funny in a way. Michigan obviously deleted him from the roster, but under the season stats his name has been replaced by "other".
