View Full Version : Clarkson @ Dartmouth/Hahvad
Final weekend of the regular season coming up. Still a remote chance at finishing as high as 5th. We beat Hahvad and lost to Dartmouth @ Cheel earlier in the seasonl Unfortunately Clarkson does not control its own destiny. To get 5th:
Clarkson needs to sweep Dartmouth and Hahvad
SLU has to tie or beat Hahvad.
Union cannot get more than 2 points against Cornell and Colgate
RPI cannot get more than 3 points against Cornell and Colgate
Clarkson loses any tie breakers with RPI due to Head to Head 0-1-1 record against the Engineers.
Clarkson wins any tie breakers with Hahvad due to Head to Head 2-0-0 record.
If Clarkson and Union are tied for 5th, Clarkson wins the tie breaker due to a better record against the top 4 of Cornell, SLU, Colgate and Dartmouth.
If Clarkson, Union and RPI are tied for 5th then Union gets 5th, RPI 6th and Clarkson 7th.
If Clarkson, Hahvad and RPI are tied for 5th then RPI gets 5th, Clarkson 6th and Hahvad 7th.
If Clarkson, Union, RPI and Hahvad are tied for 5th then Union gets 5th, RPI 6th, Clarkson 7th and Hahvad 8th.
Got it gang. Just win baby and root for SLU, Cornell and Colgate (as unpalatable at that may be ;) )

Yecch! While we're at it, pass me the castor oil.
This is what happens when a team doesn't win the games it should. I think I saw the other day that Tech was picked to finish 7th in the coaches poll. Looks like they got it about right :(
Interview with Coach Roll (http://clarksonhockeyfans.blogspot.com/2006/02/chf-interview-with-head-coach-george.html) is up and is a nice lead-in to the weekend.
Is anyone travelling with the team this weekend?

I just read the information concerning the interview with George Roll.....excellent questions and excellent answers.
HOWEVER, George Roll is not Goldie Knight.....my husband will verify that. The only reason anyone might even think that is because I am always very positive about the Clarkson Golden Knights....defending them under any and all circumstances. I found that question an honorable tribute though, even though George Roll knows at least 100% more about Clarkson hockey than I do. Who ever thought up that question to ask Coach Roll? It brought a smile to my face.:)

Real nice job guys...great to hear from George.
The Goldie Knight reference was hysterical.
Don't worry Goldie we know who you are ;) .

What on earth are we going to do about those ridiculous predictions TMM from USCHO? Two losses for the Golden Knights this weekend...inane and insane! TMM's predictions are so absurd that I simply can't even bother to list them.
I wonder if he realizes the reckless abandon the Golden Knights will play with this weekend....probably not. Clarkson has nothing to lose, as home-ice advantage has already been secured. Yet, Dartmouth and Harvard have a lot to lose.
Remember, the woofing gods have departed from Potsdam, Hanover, and Cambridge.
Here are my predictions:
CLARKSON 4 little green 3
CLARKSON 3 the crimson 2
Others' predictions are welcome.
DISMAY AND DISTURB DARTMOUTH TOKNIGHT.:)

I am not crazy about his predictions either, however, he does come around to say,
"Despite the fact that St. Lawrence has the better league record and more impressive results in non-conference play, the talent on Clarkson would scare me if I was looking at its bench from across the ice. I disagreed earlier in the season with those who said that the Golden Knights were, despite their inexperience, the most talented team in the league. Now, I'm not so sure."
".....the times they are a changing."
Here I go out on a limb....
Tech 5 Dartmouth 4
Tech 4 Harvard 3

Goldie,
Don't waste your breath and energy complaining about the predictions. These guys are not always up to speed.
Plus, it's been easy this year in the league to pick the home team and given Tech's moribund road record, I can't say I'm surprised at his picks.
All the Techers can do now is play hard, smart hockey to get the four points and make his picks look, as you put it..."ridiculous."

Don't I wish.....
Hi from warm Tempe Arizona. Got stuck on going on a business trip. Lucky there was a computer in the hotel lobby.
Well this one really hurts. GOTTA hope RPI and UNION both lose tomorrow and somehow we can beat Hahvad. Then I think we get 7th. No way to pass RPI now.

Vic...I simply can't comprehend why your company wouldn't send you to Hanover and then on to Cambridge this weekend to conduct your business.;) Nevertheless, it undoubtedly was a high-level priority for you to locate a computer to keep informed of what was going on with Clarkson hockey.
While listening to the post-game interview, it was apparent that Coach Roll was disappointed with the play of some defensemen. George said Dartmouth College outworked us and played harder than Clarkson did. There were defensive problems...we have got to get better....not everyone was playing as hard as they could...our defense was not aggressive enough.
As I mentioned in another post, Dartmouth's third goal, breaking the 2 ~ 2 tie, at 1:08 of the third period, was very controversial. The concern was that Dartmouth had two men in the Clarkson crease, which prevented David Leggio from coming out and making the save. The was verbally protested by David Leggio as well as the Clarkson coaching staff, but to no avail. This morning I read the video clearly showed there were men in the Clarkson crease. In my estimation, the momentum changed to Dartmouth's favor after that goal, and unfortunately never swung back to Clarkson. All three stars of the game were from the little green team.
Clarkson's final game of the regular season is against the crimson toknight. George feels it is a very important game even though we will have home-ice advantage next weekend. It is very necessary for the Golden Knights to get a victory on the road. Two reasons for that:
1. We NEED to break Clarkson's longest streak of nine consecutive road losses.
2. Hoping to win the first-round of the ECAC playoffs next weekend, the Golden Knights will have to go somewhere on the road the following weekend. It is good practice to start winning road games.:)
Congratulations to the two Golden Knights who scored and to their helpers.
1. Mike Sullivan, with assists from Michael Grenzy and Steve Zalewski.
2. Phillipe Paquet, with asissts from Jeff Genovy and Grant Clitsome.
David Leggio was called upon to make some excellent saves. It will be interesting to see who the Clarkson goaltender will be toknight....David or Kyle.
Last weekend in the game against Brown, Phil and Max Kolu, had a two on one breakway. Phil, rather than shooting the puck himself, made a perfect pass to Max, who scored an awesome goal. Even though it is near the end of the season, I am seeing improvement in the play of Phil Paquet.
I'm off to enjoy the Florida sunshine for a few hours before the game starts.
HARASS AND OUTCLASS HARVARD TOKNIGHT, CLARKSON GOLDEN KNIGHTS.:)

I'll be helping out with the alumni event in Harvard Square, and then we'll be bringing quite a crew with us I think. Should be great.

Well, the sad scenario of losing on the road continues. Coach Roll admitted they were disappointed because Clarkson had played some good quality games on the road, but they have not been able to win. George felt that record would not provide much confidence for the team if they do travel for the quarterfinals.
I didn't realize until the post-game interview was held that there were a few players who were sick this weekend. Also Chris Breckelmans has been plagued with a nagging back injury, as well as suffering a knee injury last knight. Chris may not have the scoring numbers some of the other defensemen have, but his work ethic is unsurpassed.
I am not nearly as depressed this Sunday morning as I usually am after two Clarkson weekend loses. That must be because I am so pleased to have one more weekend of hockey at Cheel Arena. I do like our chances against Princeton this weekend. Playing Princeton, I think we will have a good opportunity to do well, but I will never take any team for granted.
Never forget that the wolfing gods have departed from Potsdam.:)
