Yale and Brown come into town for the last home weekend. Gotta take 4 points to keep first round home ice a possibility. I'll be headed up Friday after work and should be able to catch the last half of the Yale game. Brown's band will be there Saturday night.

Jersey auction is Saturday as well.

Anyone know if they will be raising Cole and Conroy's Olympic banners this weekend? Or will they wait til next year and have a ceremony for it?

EDIT: Almost forgot, Saturday is senior night.

Interesting note -- we can secure first round home ice this weekend with a sweep, Yale getting swept, and a Princeton loss. None of those are unrealistic things to hope for, so I would like to see it all come together and give us nothing to worry about at Harvard and Dartmouth except trying for a first round bye.

Sweep and get the home ice for the first round is certainly something that is achieveable. We appear to be getting Yale at a good time as they have lost 4 of their last 5 ECAC games after winning 6 of 7. For some reason we have not played well against Brown of late. Here's hopin we can take them also. I'd really like to see us get above 8th so when we win ;) our first round playoff series we don't have to go back to Lynah for a 3rd straight year (assuming Cornell wins the league and no other upsets in the first round occur). With parity in the league this year it would not surprise me to see one or maybe even 2 upsets in the first round of the league playoffs.

It's no secret that we're better at home than we are away so far this year, so I decided in my infinite boredom over break to look into that a little deeper. In our 11 road losses this year, we have had early leads and squandered them.

At Brown -- we led 2-1 in the first period, scored the first goal, lost 4-3
At Miami(OH) -- led 1-0 after the first, lost 2-1
At RPI -- led 1-0 after the first, allowed 4 in the 2nd, lost 4-3
At Colgate -- held 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the 2nd, lost 4-3
At Cornell -- held 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the 2nd, lost 4-3
At SLU -- held a 3-1 lead in the first, 3-2 at the end of the first, lost 5-4

5 of those losses are league games. That's 10 points we could've had just by holding on, and those 10 points would have us in 1st place in the ECAC right now rather than scraping and clawing to hold on to home ice. I hope this team will finally figure out how to hold on to an early lead and get some insurance goals in the netting without risking defensive vulnerability in the attempt to get them. They certainly looked capable of it this weekend in the win against Cornell and the tie against Colgate. If they continue to play at this level and Leggio stays hot, they could go very far. There is no question in my mind they have the talent to compete with any team in college hockey.

That's an incredible bit of fact-finding. Just goes to show that hockey games are 60 minutes long. Hopefully the team will learn to appreciate that away from home. 4 points this weekend......pleeeeeaaaaaasssssse!!!

Well, I was at 4 of those games, so I already knew the facts were there, I just had to do a little perusing of USCHO to make sure I got them right.

Knowing how and being able to play with a lead comes with maturity and experience. It's as much mental as physical so it doesn't surprise me that we've had trouble doing that given the youth of the team.

And bigtime goaltending, i.e., being able to make a BIG save or two with the game hanging in the balance is needed too.

I saw the game at Yale which we hung on to win. That was another that was almost added to the list of blown leads. Whatever Yale's recent troubles are, we can't take them likely. Thay gave us all we could handle in New Haven.

Yeah Rich, and if you remember, Alec Richards their star rookie goalie, stood on his head that game, or the score could have been 8-2.
The second period we totally dominated, they came back with some jump in the third.

If we play like we did in the 1st and 2nd period of the Yale game we are in good shape.:) Of course, it depends which of our teams is going to show up.

Yep, I do remember and that's a huge part of the game. Fortunately, our guys kept working hard and maintained the lead and McNulty made a couple of big stops late.

It cracks me up when folks complain (at ANY level of hockey) that their team lost a game even though they dominated action "only" because the other guys' goalie stood on his head...or played better than his past record would have predicted.

That's a part of the game, and why goaltending is THE biggest factor. If a team lost under those circumstances, they weren't the "better TEAM" that night.

Just look at the NHL playoffs. Very often the hot goalie (the "X factor") steals a series or two.

Our guys can dominate both Yale and Brown but we also need to have solid 'tending and hope that Richards e.g., isn't doing head stands again. :D

Having just checked the poll being conducted on the Golden Knights' website and learning that an impressive 71% of the 95 voters have chosen Clarkson to earn four points this weekend, I am pleased.

According to Timothy Muir McDonald, the USCHO ECAC correspondent, the Golden Knights could conceivably end the regular season somewhere between third and twelfth place. The team can take a gigantic step forward this weekend by defeating both Yale and Brown. I feel we have a much better chance of winning these two games at home rather than the two next weekend against Dartmouth and Harvard on the road.

Mr. McDonald predicts the following:

CLARKSON 3.......yale.....2.....in overtime

CLARKSON 2.......brown....zero
--------------------------------------------------

My predictions are as follows:

CLARKSON 4......yale.....2

CLARKSON 5......brown....1

---------------------------------------------------

FOUR POINTS FOR YOU, CLARKSON GOLDEN KNIGHTS!

WHOOOOO WHOOOOOO

The Good
Scoring by Genovy 2 and Guthrie
LEGGIO LEGGIO a number of huge saves in the third. 29 overall saves
Good PK and Good discipline

The Not So Good
Guthrie injured in the third on a cheap shot hit from behind that was not called. Was taken to the hospital and it does not look good for him. Probably a separated shoulder.  George sounded down after the game.

Congratulations to the Clarkson Golden Knights on their hard-fought (and costly, because of the loss of Shea Guthrie) victory over the Yale Bulldogs. It is difficult to believe that Yale has lost so many of their recent games, but they certainly played with a determined level of intensity throughout the entire game. In fact, they had a 2 ~ 1 lead early in the second period....and you could almost feel the momentum swing. And then along comes Jeff Genovy to score his second goal of the game a few minutes later. Clarkson's third goal was a sight to behold. Shea Guthrie, with his fast-flying feet, beat the Yale defenseman, and blasted the puck into the net for the game-winning goal.

As if Jeff Genovy, one of our two seniors, hadn't created enough commotion for Yale by scoring two consecutive goals, Jeff was hit into the glass in the Clarkson zone....and the glass shattered, causing a delay of the game with 15 seconds left to play in the game. Fortunately, the face off was in the Yale zone, so there was not enough time for Yale to tie the game.

Here's the information on our goal scorers last knight:

1. Jeff Genovy, with help from Chris D'Alvise and Brodie Rutherglen

2. Jeff Genovy, with help from Michael Grenzy and Chris D'Alvise

3. Shea Guthrie, with help from his innate ability to score goals.

David Leggio played a solid game in goal, stopping 29 of 31 shots. And the Golden Knights only had four penalties (as did Yale) during this whole game. Is that a record for us?

ON TO VICTORY AGAIN TOKNIGHT.

BEAT THE BROWNIES.

WE LOVE FOUR-POINT CLARKSON WEEKENDS.:)

WHOOOOOO WHOOOOOOO

OH WHAT A KNIGHT.

THE GOOD
8 goals from Genovy (2), Zalewski, Isbister, Kolu (SH), Brekelmans, D'Alvise, Weller
Leggio again solid in the nets
The seniors Genovy, Brekelmans and McKinven leave in style

THE NOT SO GOOD
Let Brown get ahead 2-1
A few too many penalties.

CONGRATS TO THE SENIORS. ON TO HAHVAD AND DARTMOUTH AND IMPROVE THE HOME ICE POSITION FOR THE PLAYOFFS .

Vic,

There are only two jersey auctions I have information on.

Shea Guthrie's jersey generated the highest bid....$350

Nick Dodge's jersey sold for a bit over $220.

We were too busy celebrating the four-point weekend to pay closer attention.:)

It's really hard to bid against their parents, looking them in the face and telling them you're going to outbid them for their kid's jersey. That's why a lot of the jerseys went for lower than 300.

Yep, did not think of that one. I guess it would have been nice to have 2 sets, one the parents could buy at cost and then another for others to bid on. Then again, maybe the parents were doing most of the bidding. Oh well, at least the school raised some money and if the parents got most of the uniforms good for them.

Here's one for the fellow stat nerds out there: By my count, Saturday's game against Brown was Clarkson's 2000th game. This includes the three games played by the Malone branch in 1946-47. The record is 1235-659-106. Can anyone else confirm?

According to Clarkson Athletics, at the end of 2004-2005, they had played 1960 games. This year they've played 32 games. So the official record looks to be 1992. I don't believe this includes the Malone branch.

So if the official record is 1992. We'll be up to 1994 after this weekend.
Looking to the playoffs potentially:

1st Round: 1995-1997
2nd Round: 1997-1999
ECAC Semis: 1998 or 1999 or 2000
ECAC Finals/Consolation: 1999 or 2000 or 2001

Wouldn't it be something to see game 2000 at the ECACs?

if the 1st round goes 3 (1995,1996,1997)
and the 2nd round goes 3 (1998,1999,2000) then it could happen at someone elses rink... Booo no good. Best if it were at home but at Albany would be great!

If tech gets to Albany with 2 sweeps (1995-1998) then semi is 1999 and Championship would be 2000!

Greetings from the sunny South,

Here are two additional accolades for one freshman and one senior among our Golden Knights:

1. ECAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK...JEFF GENOVY.....for scoring four goals this past weekend against Yale and Brown.

2. ECAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK...CHRIS D'ALVISE..... for scoring one goal and earning four assists against Yale and Brown.

These special honors are only awarded by the ECAC on a weekly basis, and therefore, it is a very auspicious acknowledgment for any ECAC player to be chosen for this award.

Incidently, the three stars of the Clarkson ~ Brown game were our three seniors:

#1 Jeff Genovy
#2 Chris Brekelmans
#3 Jamie McKinven

At the end of the game, these three seniors skated proudly around Cheel Arena, acknowledging with gratitude, the support from their fans. It was an emotional evening for those seniors.

THANK YOU, GOLDEN KNIGHTS, FOR EARNING HOME ICE ADVANTAGE IN THE FIRST ROUND OF THE ECAC PLAYOFFS.......FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THREE YEARS.:)

With game 2000 not too far off, just wanted to note that I read many years ago in The Hockey News that Clarkson's first official game was played against the Alexandria Bay, NY (my birthplace BTW) Town Team. I believe Tech prevailed 5-2 in that game, I would guess played in the early-1900's.
