Seems we needed a new thread for recruits:
Here is a small blurb on Tim Marks.
From the Nepean Raiders web page
"NEPEAN BEATS OTTAWA
Nepean Raiders got a much deserved 7-4 victory in Ottawa this evening setting up good momentum for this coming Friday when they travel to Pembroke to take on the Lumber Kings. Nepean got two goals each from both Sebastian Panetta and Tim Marks. Other goal scorers were, Matt Valois, Brandon Edge and Chris Priolo. Ian Dams got the win in nets. "
Tim Marks had 2 goals and an assist in Nepeans 7-4 and 2-1 wins.
Matt Smith gave up 8 goals  on 27 shots to Hamilton last Monday and did not play in this weeks Thurs or Saturday games.
Jeremiah Crowe had a goal on New Years Day. No report yet on yesterdays game.

Mike,
Thank you for posting that article on Jeremiah Crowe. It not often we ever hear who is awarded a full scholarship, a partial scholarship, or no scholarship at all. This young man must be a very talented hockey play to earn that type of scholarship. The last I knew, the complete package to attend Clarkson was over $37,000 annually, multiplied by four years and keeping in mind the increasing costs each year, we are looking at a value of over $150,000 for four years. I hope these young men realize how fortunate they are!
OUR KNIGHTS ARE AWESOME.:)

btw, Jeremiah joins Clarkson golf outing attendee Steve Tarasuk on the Waxers. Maybe a little early pairing of the d-men before college? edit: Tarasuk was selected for the OPJHL Future Stars Series
Goldie,
I don't know the source of the information...while it appears "official", and "buffalomike" is in someway connected to the jr. sabres. The "full scholarship" verbiage oftentimes is misused, and many fans like myself never know the real agreement. Either way, they should appreciate a Clarkson education, I know I do.
Edit2: Tim Marks was also selected to participate in the CJHL all-star game (http://www.cjhl.on.ca/events/allstar0506team.php)

Had the pleasure of meeting Rick, whom I had not seen in many years, and his son at reunion last summer. Can't recall which other school(s) Steve was considering but his dad did say he wanted to at least expose him to Tech.
Rick is a school principal in a Toronto area HS...we swapped stories over a couple of cold ones. Great guy!
All the best to both of them and I hope Steve makes the right decision for himself.

Thanks for the note on Crowe, I understand he turned down offers from Maine and Providence. He already has a goal and a assist in 2 games.
This was on the Waxers site:
Jeremiah Crowe, defence, comes from the Buffalo Junior Sabres. A fast skating hockey player with great work ethic and excellent leadership abilities. Jeremiah is headed to Clarkson next year on a full scholarship.
Seems like a typical Roll recuit.
Tim Marks had 2 goals in a Nepean loss to Hawksbury and 2 goals in a Nepean win over Smith Falls this past weekend.
Matt Smith did not play in Missassagua's 7-0 loss to Oakville.
Jeremiah Crowe had 1 goal in Markhams 7-2 win over Oshawa and no points in their 9-1 win over Vaughn.

Vic,
On Saturday Tim Marks partipated in the CJHL AllStar game. http://www.cjhl.on.ca/events/allstar0506.php. The lineup card indicates that he wore #13 for the visitors: http://www.cjhl.on.ca/docs/allstargmlineup.pdf. So http://www.cjhl.on.ca/docs/allstargmsheet.pdf indicates he scored two goals.
It sounds like he is in a 2-goal-per-game rut. ;)

RAIDERS TROUNCE NORTH BAY
The Raiders enjoyed a big 7-3 win Sunday afternoon over the visiting North Bay SkyHawks in an interleague game. Nepean was led by a Tim Marks hat trick, as well as goals from Emmond Bell, Jamie Cavanagh, Andrew Mather and Phil Farrow. Ian Dams picked up his 24th win of the season
Bring him up now, we can use the goals.

Well it certainly does not sound good though you never know. If it is anything bad you can bet that Roll and Company are probably aware of it and will act accordingly. After what happened with Dustin Traylen you can bet that the staff will not put up with any BS from a player or his parents.

Thanks Ursaminor, I see Heisenberg has Rufenach listed slightly higher than Tarasuk for 2007 recruits (for whatever that is worth). Getting both would be a coup for Tech.
I see George is locking guys up a year in advance, as other colleges do it, I guess it forces us to do it as well.
Not only that, but with only two roster spots opening up for the upcoming season, there's no reason to just sit on your hands, especially if there are some top caliber players out there that are worth taking a chance on.

Absolutely true. Laziness wasn't the real issue with Traylen. Too bad because the kid had a lot of talent and came to Tech hyped as "the best Tech goalie since Bullock."

According to the Brockville Braves website he was an assistant coach for Clarkson in 02-03, and he played for SLU for four years, captain in 1993-1994. Good to see him keeping the connections going. I'm sure he enjoyed the band as a coach AND a player ;)

Hey Mr. Cool,
The 2005 ~ 2006 Clarkson student directory, which was published in the fall, lists Brandon Merkosky as a sophomore CE BS major. It is only published annually though. Also, his brother is a freshman at Clarkson. I don't imagine this will provide much help in answering your question, but it is all I have right now. Perhaps we will know more a bit later.
It was nice to read about your adventures in Ithaca with the famous Rich S....one of the favorite targets of the elynah forum folks.....most of whom are utter idiots. Their interpretation of the games was very different from a Clarkson perspective as provided by Bob and Gary.
Clarkson is enjoying a spring break now, so the Golden Knights should be able to have some relaxing time to themselves prior to the resumption of classes.
As long as little red loses both games of the ECAC Tournament this weekend, it doesn't matter to me who wins the tournament....but I am expecting that Dartmouth will do that. Comments, anyone?

Mike,
My first thought when I originally read Mr. Cool's query about Brandon Merkosky was that if anyone could find the answer to that question, it would be you. I have not met Brandon, so I would never even know if he had attended the Golden Knights' games this season or not.
We are hearing rumors that Nick Dodge will be selected as an All American. Does anyone know the qualifications and the selection process for that honor?
I think Nick accumulated 41 points this season....his total goals and assists. Those 41 points this year, added to Nick's 18 from last season, give him a two-year total of 59. I would say Nick is a very promising candidate to join Clarkson's elite 100 Point Club, needing only 41 points in the next two years to earn that auspicious award. BTW, JF Houle is also a member of that prestigious club with 129 points earned in his four years at Clarkson.

For 2006 we are replacing:
Breklemans D
Genovy F
McKinven D/F
Tim Marks sounds like an exact replica of Genovy, big size, grinder can score some goals.
Crowe will be the defenseman we replace for Brekelmans. However, Crowe seems to be more offensive minded than Brekelmans. I like offense, but we need someone like Brekelmans that is going to bring that hard hitting physical game. We are not a very phyiscal team.

That is exactly true. In the only games I saw (at Yale and at Princeton) prior to last Saturday, it was obvious that physical play is not our forte with the current bunch.
We got away with it in those two games as well as in some others but I feared that we'd have trouble at cornell with their very physical game...and yes, they do still play some "clutch and grab" hockey. Regardless of the latter which Hansen allowed both teams to play, (and they play it much more and much better than we do), they pushed us around all over the ice. Sitting at the end which we defended all but the second period, it was amazing to see how often most of our guys got pushed off the puck by the bigger cornell players.
Some of that is technique. We need to do a better job of protecting the puck, regardless of body size. But we do need some more physical guys, grinders with some skills, if you will. Right now, I think we have plenty of skill, finesse players. As I said last week, we need more grit!
In my mind, and for those of you who go back this far, or farther, like some of us here :D , the best example that comes to my mind is Mike Kozak, '91. A great guy off the ice but a fierce battler who fought for every inch on it. And he could score some, too.
Not winning the battles in the corners and on the boards limited our shots and good scoring chances both nights at cornell. They cycled very well and it also allowed them to outshoot us by a huge margin both nights. Thank God for David Leggio's solid play, regardless of what most of the elynah posters who were reluctant to give him much credit.
We play very well in the open ice. We need to be able to play better along the boards and in the corners to have more success against the bigger, stronger, albeit slower teams like cornell. It's not the pretty part of the game but it's where most games are won and lost.
I killed two birds with one stone here; that's my comments on the weekend. The games were very similar. That raises one question in my mind. In the two RS games which we split, the SOG were very close. What did we do in those games that we didn't on Saturday? Brett ? Anyone else who saw one or both of them?

Many thanks, Rich, for your thoughts on the games against little red this past weekend. Thank goodness, none of those elynah fans know where to find us on this Roundtable. Hopefully Scott would not permit them to register and heckle us anyway.
My thoughts about the Clarkson ~ little red game at Cheel Arena on February 10 are:
1. The Golden Knights were playing at home....that factor was huge as far as victories were concerned this past season.
2. David McKee played only the first period. I honestly believe he was sick.....probably made sicker by the fact that the Golden Knights scored two goals against him in twenty minutes. But he was replaced by another little red goalie, whose name was Chabot. (I don't think David McKee is as sharp a goaltender this year as he has been in the past.)
3. I honestly think that Clarkson wanted to win that game badly...and little red never took the Golden Knights as seriously as they should have.

Careful Goldie...it's "Schafer". Some elynah folks have blistered me in the past when I accidentally misspelled it. They'll hunt you down like mad dogs if they see your misspelling, trust me...lol.
The guy has become a god in their eyes which is ok until you consider that most of them have no clue about Ned Harkness who led cornell to the national title. It's his immeasureable arrogance that turns me off though I have great respect for his coaching ability.
I watched that game you referred to on TV and there was no reason for Willie to apologize. It was an accident and very unfortunate that the coach was injured as a result.

Coach Schafer is also a former cornell player, which only adds to cornell fans' admiration.
I remember one game against cornell a few years ago at Cheel. It must have been over a break (Thanksgiving?) and since the band wasn't there they had a DJ playing music during breaks. During one such break, Shafer was complaining pretty vehemently about something to the ref, when the DJ broke out "Big Girls Don't Cry." I still get a chuckle when I think about that one!

Someone made an earlier reference to the little red coach, Mike Schafer. My fondest memory of him occurred one day at Cheel when Willie Mitchell was playing defense. He shot the puck towards the Cornell bench, and the puck hit Mike Schafer. I asked Willie later on in that season if he ever apologized to the coach, and he shook his head no and smiled.:)
SMILED after hitting him? FONDEST memory?? Excuse me, but that's sick. People have been maimed for life, and even killed, by errant pucks. One such death was at Lynah. I bet you think that's a regular laugh-riot.

People have been maimed for life and even killed in skiing accidents too, but America's Funniest Home Videos has thousands of Americans laughing at skiing/sledding/skateboarding mishaps every week. This incident was harmless and Willie thought it was comical. So did Goldie and so do I. Lighten up Dude! and lay off the negativity you so often peddle.

What's sick is that you really take it seriously. When the ref was hit and hurt by the puck at Cornell this weekend, 90% of the student section cheered! Is that sick? Would they cheer if the guy was carried off in a stretcher? NO! I have seen fans have this reaction at every arena across the country, so don't try to hold Goldie's feet to the fire, get over it. Mitchell didn't want somebody hurt and neither did Goldie.
So climb off your rocking horse and get a grip. I can be PM'ed for further debate.

Why am I not surprised? Think about it.

Yes, yes, yes. I see.

Last year (edit: Nov 2004) it was suggested by OntarioDraft.com that he would be signed by Cornell. Although that apparently had no basis (http://elf.elynah.com/read.php?1,42547,46011#msg-46011) Matt is a former teammate of Ryan Angelow (Michigan Tech, but previously rumored to be recruited by Clarkson). Mike Adessa is coaching two of the teams entered.
It also appears that the Team Minnesota, New England, Ontario, and Michigan are given a clear ride to the Quarter-Finals... I dont think any of the other teams will provide much competition...
http://www.proamhockey.com/pre_draft/predraft_2006.htm
I went to this the year Leech and Janney were draft eligible. There were 4 teams in it - Mass., Minnesota, Michigan, & New England ex Mass -- all were allstar teams - play was exceptional. The attendance in the stands was even more exceptional -- most NHL teams had 3 or 4 reps there including GM's, scouts & even coaches. Jim Johnson was head of central scouting back then and he was there, as well as several D-1 college coaches. An impressive show, all in all.

Which title? Goon or Grinder with skill?;)
That's an easy one.
cornell fans call anyone a "goon" who even once throws a nasty check, or flips a puck anywhere near Arrogant Mike or retaliates to a cornell player's check. And when they say "goon", that indicates that the guy has little or no skill.
Case in point...Willie Mitchell. Yeah right, Willie has no skill at all.
To show how silly this was this year, after one of the cornell RS games, they labelled Nick Dodge a "goon." And what was it he did? Throw a stick over the glass or someother mortal transgression?
Weller has succeeded Nickerson as the Golden Knight most hated by the Lynah faithful. I heard that Bob A made that comment on a broadcast. And we all know that Shawn is a goon and of course has no skill at all. lol....

I was led to believe he transfered to Clarkson and gave up hockey to just be a student. For example, he attended *0* functions last year, as in never set foot on the ice for practices, even though he was eligible to practice with the team.

One the staff missed out on, by whose choice we'll never know....
Interview with LA Kings Director of Amateur Scouting Al Murray
HF: With your other fifth round pick, you took 19-year-old defenseman Martin Nolet who played last season with Champlain. What’s the story on him?
AM: Martin Nolet played at Cegep. Cegep is a cross between college hockey and university hockey. It’s an intermediate step educationally, between high school and university in Quebec. They have a tier-2 league now, which incorporates these teams. A lot of the Quebec junior teams send their players who aren’t quite ready for the league to this. He wanted to go college, so he’s got a scholarship to the University of Massachusetts for next fall. I know Clarkson and a couple of other schools were interested in him.
He’s a 6’3 guy, who’s a very good skater. He’s got a little bit of time left to put his stamp on whether he wants to be a offensive or defensive defenseman. He’s a good skater who can move the puck and he’s somewhat physical. He’ll have four years to develop at a good NCAA school. We thought he was well worth the gamble.
