View Full Version : Todd Marchant

He may be on the way out of Columbus, with the team acquiring Sergei Fedorov. Via EJ Hradek's ESPN Blog:
"The addition of Fedorov pushes the Blue Jackets toward the high limit of the cap. That's more than they want to spend. MacLean says he'll be making a couple of other moves to lower his cap number. One such move might be to place veteran C Todd Marchant on waivers. Marchant is the club's fourth highest paid player, earning $2.47 million. He's got one more season, plus a team/player option for the 2007-08 season. MacLean wouldn't comment on whether or not he was going to put Marchant on the waiver wire. If he does, there probably won't be too many takers at that price."

Just heard that Todd is on waivers. Bummer....but!
He began his pro career with the Rangers, played one game...against Steve Dubinsky's Blackhawks in fact ( I have the game on tape somewhere) sooooo....I think Sather should bring him back to NYC.
He still has great speed, is solid on face offs, and is a top penalty-killer and short-handed threat.
Do it Glen! Oh...that cap thing could get in the way.

That article details the situation very well. Hopefully a deal is made quickly so he won't be stuck in the AHL.

Washington has plenty of room under the cap. The team needs speed and if there is one thing Marchant has, is speed.

According to TSN's report, Marchant was originally part of the Fedorov trade talks, but he refused to waive his no trade clause. The Ducks then sent Fedorov and a fifth-round draft pick to the Jackets without Marchant as part of the deal.
Very interesting...
Todd had 2 goals and an assist toknight as the Ducks finished off the Avalanche with a series sweep. Probably looking too far ahead, but a Ducks-Sabres final for the cup would be really interesting.

Todd Marchant. The man with the wheels. I live in Williamsville and that was a quickly "mentioned, glossed-over" point made about his two goals to take the team to the next round.
Buffalo gets pretty focused on just what is happening "right here, right now." I would have thought the Marchant goals would have been more highly talked about.
Mostly I just listen to WBEN (930AM) on the way to work and the way home, but I would have liked to hear more about Marchant.
I believe his high school team, Williamsville North, won their state division again this year.
Ducks appear to be real so far -- top line has scored 7 goals in last 2 games and goalie is hot - plus they'll get a bit of rest in the west as Oilers scored 5 unanswered goals toknight against the Sharks to even their series @ 2. I would love to see Todd (back home) & Ducks in the HSBC vs Sabres for all the marbles. Last NHL game I attended there was the infamous Hull in the crease game for the cup that ended about 1:30 in the AM. My brother sez he will get tix for me if the Sabres make it, so I'm ready!!!:p

3 assists for Todd last night. Still a long way to go for the Ducks, however.

Yep - big hole to dig out of - only been done twice before. Also Sabres appear to be in big trouble with Conolly, Numminen, Kalinin and Tallinder all out.

Todd's recent work in Anaheim.
Last game: Scoreless, Feb. 17 @ LA (Did not dress, Feb. 18-20) - CURRENTLY OUT WITH AN ABDOMINAL STRAIN -- - Has scored three SHGs, tying the franchise record for a season - T-6th in NHL in SHGs (through games of Feb. 21) - Played in his 100th career game as a Duck, Jan. 9 @ NSH - Missed six games with an abdominal strain, Dec. 26-Jan. 7
Hope he is feeling better. Still has the wheels apparently with SHGs.

Nice little interview during the second intermission of the Rangers @ Ducks game tonight. Even mentioned Tech!

Yep, saw that.
I remember well his one game as a Ranger, and his trade for MacTavish the next day. Anyone recall what other former Techer played in that memorable game?
Hint: it was vs the Blackhawks.

Stemmer - I don't recall, but Dubinsky was in Chicago about then, I think.

I remember seeing that game on MSG, and thinking I'd have to become something of a Blueshirt fan. The Rangers, upon recognizing this fact, did dutifully trade for McTavish, and thereby nullified that possibility. :D

Yep, it was Dubinsky with the Hawks. Somewhere I have that game on tape and noted the moment when Steve and Todd faced off against each other.
Trading Todd was bittersweet. Was upset that a Techer was leaving the rangers but MacTavish was a big key in the Cup run.
The next 2 years or so, Neil Smith bemoaned the fact that he had to trade Todd to do the deal especially because he was a young guy with speed, a commodity the Rangers sorely lacked.
I'm not necessarily a Rangers fan, but I was glad to see them get a cup in my lifetime - means all things are possible, I guess. I was at the game for the infamous Kovalev dive, when Van Hellemond had his back turned looking at Kovalev as Sakic drove the net and scored - did not count. Rangers were a team of destiny that year - Devils had'em and couldn't finish, Canucks hit the post in game 7 for the GWG as well, IIRC. Great to see US born Leetch get the Conn Smyth. Probably won't see another Rangers cup in my lifetime.......

Bill,
Devils had 'em?
No way, they weren't ready to win that year. Marty couldn't stop a wraparound...he still can't! Other devils were intimidated; Game 6 when Messier had the 'trick and his "guarantey" showed that.
Rangers WERE a team of destiny. They had great leadership and won despite Mad Mike (a Sluzer) being the coach.
Even he said that anyone could have coached that team to a Cup.
"Now I can die in peace"...that sign at Game 7 vs Vanc was a few rows in front of me.
The post the Canucks hit in Game 7 would have been for the tying goal as the Rangers never trailed in that game.

Just watching the Ducks/Sharks game and they announced that Todd's wife had a bouncing baby boy yesterday. Congratulations.
They just interviewed Caroline between periods. Gave birth yesterday, there with the 4 kids today. She's ready to be a hockey mom. :)
