Unbelievable, not that it happened, but the impact of the spill....
http://wwnytv.net/72k/full-story.asp?uid=7954&area=home+path. A dike broke on a farm in Lewis County (Lowville) spilling 3 million gallons of liquid manure into the Black River. One day later, thousands of fish are dead, including pike, walleye and bass. Those that are familar with the area know the popularity of the Black River for fishing and kayaking. If it reaches Lake Ontario, (http://www.thewhig.com/webapp/sitepages/content.asp?contentid=121615&catname=Local+News&classif=News+Alert) it should be diluted enough to minimize any potential hazards.

OUCH. The environmental implications are shocking, to say the least.

I was back home in good old Wayne County NY the other week and overheard some local farmers talking about the spill. I had been told about it and the massive resulting fish kill by my mom earlier. She's an environmental engineer. Anyway, these ignorant morons were more worried about the farmer who's manure lagoon it was getting put out of business by the fine from the DEC than the extreme environmental damage it has caused to the Black River and the area. Talk about short sighted.
