WCKN is in the early stages looking into the possibility of offering home games on DVD for sale. We'd like to know if anyone out there would be interested in either subsribing to a full season of games, or ordering specific games.
Thanks,

So which games would be released? Just curious. There are a few I'd be interested in. They'd be fun to watch in order to get my Clarkson hockey fix, seeing as I'm quite aways from Potsdam. Could you give a few more details? Thanks!

We are looking at buying a DVD burner (this has become cheaper and faster than VHS), so we would be able to release any game that someone wanted to buy. We might also offer a sort of season pass, where a subscriber would recieve every home game. The goal is to make the price of each DVD closer to the cost of a rental than the average cost of buying a DVD. This is all very preliminary though, so for now we will all have to take that goal with a grain of salt.

I'll take some!!!
One word of advice however. DVD burners are not all they are cracked up to be. Currently, consumer and prosumer models give you just what you pay for. As next season rolls around, maybe the technology available will improve and prices will fall, which is likely. I would not buy anything below $2,500 right now however if you really want good quality...and hockey games definitely need that.

I would definately be interested in purchasing:
SLU games
RPI games
Playoffs

Why not offer VHS videotapes in addition to (or instead of) DVDs? This ensures that people without DVD players aren't left in the lurch, and would be rather inexpensive when compared to DVD authoring.

Unfortunately we would only ever be able to offer VHS only in very limited quantities. With the equipment currently in the station we can only record at real speed, so at best we can make a copy in three hours. A DVD burner allows us to produce in much higher quantities. So it's really the availability of DVD that allows us to offer the games to a larger audience. We could also offer the games on CD to be viewed at a computer, but I know that's not as nearly good as sitting down in front of your tv.

Sounds good. I already have a handfull of games in mind that I'd like. It would be fun. Just be thorough in your planning so it gets done right!
I would be interested in specific games -- not the whole season -- would be a good service if you can do it for a reasonable price!

Nice idea, but I doubt there is much of a market other than the home SLU game and any NC$$ appearance. Still doubt that you could cover costs, however, unless we are talking Frozen Four. Then the NC$$ reserves all video rights and would be very costly to buy.
I suspect the EZAC also has the rights for the playoffs in Placid as well... As I recall, no cameras allowed. Probably exclusive to Empire and/or NESN, no?
I would be interested in the occasional game, but a season's worth may be a little much, cost wise. Would you have any of the road games?
